UNIFORMS

Balmain Public School children are expected to wear full school uniform, including a school hat, every day. All children are required to wear full school uniform when representing the school on excursions, at sporting events or at cultural activities.

HAVE YOU ENROLLED YOUR SIBLING YET?

From the Principal's Desk...

It's all part of the job...

As we're busy juggling the 'many balls' and preparing for our last week of the school year, I've also been asked to be a Principal representative on a panel. It is very time sensitive and must be completed by the end of term.

For me, this means that I'll be at Arncliffe Office on Monday for the shortlisting of candidates. It won't affect the Year 6 Graduation event on Monday evening, which I'm really looking forward to.

Another event that is very special to the Balmain PS family, is the Leaving Arch on the last day. This, unfortunately for me, is the day the interviews have been scheduled, again at Arncliffe Office. From past experience, this could take up most of day, which most likely means that I won't be able to make it back in time to say goodbye to our leaving students and families.

The prospect of missing the event saddens me, however, I am going to try and remain positive that the process will wrap up quickly and I'll be back in time. I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

Thank you and farewell...

Our multi-talented (see pic) Ms Renae Bonney, will sadly be leaving us at the end of the year. As Kindy Beluga know very well, Ms Bonney started at Balmain from the start of Term 2 this year.

As well as being the teacher of KG, Ms Bonney has been relieving in the role of K-2 Assistant Principal, bringing a skillset to both complement and support our team.

Although being offered another year at the school, Ms Bonney has regretfully declined, as the daily commute has become increasingly difficult for her.

If you get a chance to say hello (and goodbye) during the week, please do so. We have been grateful to have Ms Bonney as a member of the Balmain PS family and wish her all the very best for the future! Thank you, Renae, and farewell!

FROM OUR P&C...

What a Show! Thank you to all involved!

Dear Parents & Carers,

It is with tremendous pleasure that we announce the BPS Art Show 2022 has raised a whopping $40,000! What an amazing result for our school, which would not have been possible without a lot of hard work from many parents, carers and teachers.

Across two successful events – The Soirée and Family Fete Day – we showcased the highly impressive student and collaborative class artwork and auctioned over 100 pieces of external artworks. We opened our school gates to the community and entertained the crowds with stalls, activities and performances. It was such a huge effort by so many volunteers and such an achievement to see so many children and families enjoying the displays and festivities across the weekend.

Special thanks to the following people

·      Principal Maria and BPS Teachers for their support

·      Art teacher and parent Felicity Bowman for her unwavering enthusiasm, creativity and energy

·      Parent, Josie Simpson for her outstanding curation of the online auction and visual display

·      Parent Lindsay Egan from Corner Bar Rozelle for his generosity and fabulous bar skills

·      Our class reps, all volunteers and helpers who made the Art Show an absolute roaring success, especially parent Louisa Rigoni who helped out the entire two days

·      P&C friend Amanda Cooton for her beautiful photos

·      Our major sponsor Ray White Rozelle and Belinda Cassano

·      All our showcased event sponsors

·      And finally to event organisers Lauren LaChapelle and Karen Wyness, who worked tirelessly to bring these events to life!

The money raised will be used against the priorities outlined in the P&C survey earlier this year. We look forward to updating you early next year with more details.

THANK YOU!!!!!

BPS @ Snowsports Interschools 2022!

BPS @ Snowsports Interschools 2022!

Balmain Public @ Snowsports Interschools 2022!

The Australian Snowsports Interschools competition is a series of Ski, Snowboard and XC events held across Australia’s ski resorts, attracting school kids from Kindy to Year 12.

After a 2-year forced hiatus (thanks COVID!), Balmain Public School was again represented at the Australian Snowsports Interschools.

Camilla K (1/2 J) enthusiastically represented BPS in Division 6 (Kindy to 2), in both the Ski Cross and Alpine competitions.

In July, Camilla competed at the Sydney Championships, qualifying for the NSW State Championships by finishing:

  • 9th in the Alpine GS competition; and
  • 5th in the Ski Cross competition.

In August, Camilla qualified for the National Championships by finishing with the 18th fastest run in Ski Cross.

Then in September, Camilla finished 38th out of more than 60 of the fastest K-2 skiers across the whole country.

But most of all, Camilla had heaps of fun, made new friends on the slopes from a bunch of other schools, and she can’t wait to do it all again in 2023 (this time with her little sister who will be starting kindy in 2023!).

Camilla also hopes that a bunch of other BPS skiers and snowboarders can help form a few teams to put Balmain Public on the (ski) map!

WOW, Camilla, what an achievement...CONGRATULATIONS!

[Team Manager for Balmain Public School (Joshua Knuckey) is keen to hear from any families with kids in Kindy right through to Yr 6 in 2023 who might be interested in skiing or snowboarding for Balmain Public in 2023 - for those interested, keep an eye on Pigeon Post in early 2023]

FYI - Sydney Championships are scheduled for 10-14 July 2023 in Thredbo, with States and Nationals to follow in August and September, respectively.

#Grateful

Your tokens of appreciation, although so heart-warming and generous, especially during this time, are neither necessary, nor expected.

Staff are very appreciative of your generosity, however, as per the DoE's 'Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Procedures', the token of appreciation must adhere to the following:

  • Value - up to $50 ONLY per student
  • NO cash or negotiable instruments such as cash vouchers, 'pre-paid cash' and 'EFTPOS' cards, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), shares or money orders
  • Gift cards are acceptable as a gift of gratitude, as they are considered non-cash vouchers that must be used as specific retailers and cannot be converted to cash eg David Jones, Bunnings, Tara Dennis - a gift card cannot exceed $50 per student

As much as we'd love to have everyone gather together for these special events, we must still follow the current NSW Department of Education's guidelines:

'If holding an event indoors...limit the number of guests attending where possible'

https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families#Events5

In line with the guidelines, we are limiting the invitation this year to families of students who are being acknowledged some way, as well as the Year 6 families. Families of students who are being acknowledged will be personally notified by next Wednesday 7 December.

Spotlight on...

1/2 JELLYFISH!!!!!

This week, Stage 1 students were lucky enough to celebrate a fantastic year of learning with an excursion to Wildlife World and Sea life Aquarium. 1/2J students absolutely loved observing a wide variety of animals: big, small, creepy, crawly and dangerous! We investigated their diet and behaviour as we journeyed through each animal's habitat. We even had an educational chat with a zookeeper!

There were lots of cool animals, and I got to know new people in my year. My favourite habitat was the tree Kangaroos. They were so sleepy. I never knew that kangaroos could lie down like that. - Ruby

I loved everything about our excursion. I loved seeing the parent volunteers. The jellyfish maze was incredible. My favourite habitat was the echidna enclosure because he was so close to me. He even peaked his nose out! I felt like I was so close to him. I was so surprised by the Tasmanian Devils, because I wasn't expecting them to be two different colours. - Alex

I really enjoyed the penguins. They were very very cute. Seeing the sting ray swim over the top of me was awesome. I felt like it was coming to eat me! - Orson

The best thing I loved was going to the tunnel because it was so dark and pretty with the stars. The nocturnal animals live there because it was daylight, so that's when they sleep. - Macy

I loved that we went to both Wildlife world and Sea life. My parent volunteer was so much fun! - Anouk.

Going to Sea life was the best. I loved seeing the Jellyfish and seeing how they move! - Zara

I really loved seeing the penguins. It was so cute watching them swim around and waddle. I learned a lot about what penguins looked like, because I'd never seen them before. - Nico

My favourite place was Sea life. My favourite sea creature was the penguins, because they are so cute - Marla

I love our school, and I really liked the excursion - Patrick.

I really liked seeing the animals and stuff. There were so many sharks! - Ethan.

I really liked it; my favourite bit of the excursion was seeing Nemo and Dory! It was really cool when I saw the Axolotl. My favourite bit at the Wildlife world was seeing a blue tongue lizard. - Kit
