Term 2 - Week 10 - 2022

Enjoy The Upcoming Break:

On behalf of the school, I would like to extend my gratitude for the collective efforts of staff, students and their families for what has been a very productive term. We are so blessed to have dedicated staff working in partnership with our students and families, to achieve great things together. We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday break.

Semester 1 Reports and Parent Teacher Evenings:

Semester 1 reports have been written and distributed by teachers to provide comprehensive feedback about your child’s learning so far this year. Parent Teacher Evenings will be held in Week 2 of Term 3 to allow families to read their child’s / children’s reports over the holiday break, and then link back in with the school early Term 3 to discuss learning goals for Semester 2. More information about bookings for Parent Teacher Evening will be shared with families when school resumes Day 1 next term. We encourage parents and carers to invest time with their child / children to discuss their report with them and encourage further effort in their learning moving forward.

Top Blokes – Year 5 Boys Mentoring Program:

This term our Year 6 boys have participated in the 10-week mentor program called Top Blokes. For one hour each week our Year 6 boys explored topics around quality relationships and what it means to be a great male role model (Top Bloke). We are so excited about this program running again next term for our Year 5 boys. Thanks again goes out to Swansea Community Cottage for sponsoring this program for Term 2, and to our amazing P&C for their sponsorship for Term 3.

Increased School Access – Semester 2:

As COVID restrictions continue to ease we are looking forward to increasing opportunities to have parents and carers physically on site and in classrooms in Term 3. We are hoping to build our audiences back to healthy numbers at weekly assemblies on a Friday, have play groups running for our incoming 2023 Kindergarten cohort, and showcase learning in our classrooms. More information about how you can get involved will be promoted regularly throughout Term 3 and 4.

NAIDOC Week and Education Week:

Week 3 next term will be a great showcase for our school where we will be celebrating NAIDOC and Education Week. Families will have multiple opportunities to see the wonderful things happening at our school. We are aiming for Week 3 to be an amazing celebration of Aboriginal culture and student learning. Keep an eye out for upcoming promotions for this event.

Community Playground Survey:

Our school, in partnership with our P&C, are working on securing a grant for a new playground. While the school has financed the replacement of the structure that provides shade for our fixed equipment playground, we don’t have existing funds to upgrade our fixed equipment; so securing this grant is a big step moving forward in obtaining a playground our kids and community deserve. I encourage families to complete our short survey, and to share the survey broadly throughout the Swansea community, to assist us in capturing community voice. Thank you to the 200+ community members who have already filled out this survey!

Congratulations Mrs Dianne Bellette

After 32 years I have now decided it’s time to retire.

I have spent many wonderful years at Swansea Public School since I first started way back in 1989. I have held many positions in the school but none as rewarding as a School Learning Support Officer. I have met many wonderful principals, staff, parents & students over those years.

I have seen many students achieve so much and it has been a rewarding job. It gives me great pleasure to know that I was there to help them in a little way. I am still in touch with many today. It’s great to see how they have grown up & what they have achieved.

I would like to thank all the staff I have worked with over those years...and this is what I miss the most....the interaction with people I now call friends. My husband Kevin & I are leaving for WA soon and will be away for 6 weeks.

Thank you for the memories Swansea Public School.

Kind regards

Mrs Dianne Bellette
