Principal's Report

Hello Families,

I am so excited and privileged to be joining Broken Hill North Public School in 2023 as your new Principal.  I would like to sincerely thank Mr Cumming on leading such a wonderful school for 12 years and I know I have huge shoes to fill.  I would also like to pass on a huge thank you to Mrs McEvoy for stepping into the chair for Term 4.  We will be working closely together throughout the term to ensure a smooth start to 2023.

On the first weekend of the school holidays, my family and I paid a visit to Broken Hill and were lucky enough to meet our brilliant Executive team and Mr Peter Macbeth our Director, Educational Leadership.  We have sought temporary accommodation and once we move in January, we will be looking at either buying a block of land with the intention to build or to buy our new home.

I will be visiting Broken Hill and will be working closely with Mrs McEvoy to plan for the year ahead.  I will also take this opportunity to get to know students and staff.  I will be at school from Monday 24 October to Tuesday 1 November and hope to meet as many families as possible.  I anticipate that I will visit again towards the end of the term before moving to Broken Hill permanently with my family early in January.

Looking forward to joining the Broken Hill North Public School community,

Angela Sampson

Welcome back to Paradise!

We really hope everyone has had an enjoyable break from the routines of school and are now ready to take on the many opportunities that are planned for Term 4. These include the Check-In Assessment for Years 3, 4 and 5, Swimming School for Years 2 – 4 and Support Unit students, Kindergarten transition, Year 6 to High School transition visits and Public Speaking competitions.

A reminder that wearing hats is a school expectation when outside and in the playground. It is important to “Be safe” and look after our skin to stop issues in later life.

COVID-19 requirements

You may have heard that National Cabinet announced a decision to remove the isolation requirements for COVID-19 positive cases. The NSW Department of Education is working on this to make sure our COVID-smart settings are aligned when the change to isolation comes into effect on Friday 14 October. In the meantime, the school is to continue to follow the same measures we had in place for Term 3. An update will be provided to all staff and families once we have confirmation from the department.

P & C – Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 8 November at 6.30pm in the Community Centre. It would be great to see lots of parents there to have a say in our school.

Gala Days - On Wednesday 21 June, sadly the boys cricket day had to be cancelled due to the rain but our girls shone brightly in basketball. All we expected from them was to do their best and have fun! Mission accomplished!

Kindergarten 2023

It is really important that enrolments for our 2023 Kindergarten students are sorted as soon as possible. Kindergarten transition commences in Week 3 and we need to have names to invite our Little Northies to visit and prepare for 2023.

If you need assistance with the paperwork we’re more than willing to help out. At the moment we have very few enrolment forms handed in – I’m certain there are many more little ones that want to come our way next year!

The survey window will open on Monday 5 September (Week 8, Term 3) and run until Friday 4 November (Week 4, Term 4)

We are encouraging parents to participate in The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey. It is anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering parents' perceptions of their child's experiences at home and at school.

Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the school's support of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements.

Please go to the following site and complete the survey before Friday 4 November 2022.

Your opinions and responses are greatly valued and enable the school to plan for the future.
