Bogangar Public School Newsletter

TERM 2 Week 2, 2019

Message from the Principal

Welcome to Term 2 and the first of our electronic newsletter's.

I trust our students have had a fun and relaxing break and are ready for the term that lies ahead. Our term calendar is full with many exciting activities that will keep everyone on their toes. A paper copy of the calendar was distributed to families in the first week of the term and also posted on Skoolbag.

To stay abreast of school happenings please make sure you have downloaded our Skoolbag app.

Term 2, is a ten week term and will finish for all students on Thursday 4th July as BPS staff will be engaged in a Staff Development Day. This will mean that students will return in Term 3 on Monday 22nd July.

Whilst on the topic of Staff Development Days (SDD), staff at BPS are planning a variation to Friday 20th December, their last professional learning day.

The variation will be two twilight sessions on Wednesday 3rd July (Term 2, Week 10) and Wednesday 24th July (Term 3, Week 1), from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

The variation to the SDD will have no impact on children’s learning as students final day of the year will be Wednesday 17th December.

Feedback is welcomed in regard to the variation.

ANZAC DAY

ANZAC Day March, 25th April 2019

Although ANZAC day for 2019 fell in the school holidays our staff and students remain committed to honoring all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served".

The school participated in 3 separate services.

ANZAC Memorial Service held at the Cabarita Bowls and Sports Club in conjunction with

  • Kingscliff RSL Sub-Branch – Saturday 20th April
  • Kingscliff RSL Sub-Branch ANZAC March & Service - Thursday 25th April
  • BPS School ANZAC Service – Thursday 2nd May

A message from Mrs Williams and Mrs Smart -

We had 28 students from Kinder to Year 6 represent our school during the holidays at the Kingscliff Anzac Day March.

The sun managed to keep shining on such an important day for us all. We then were part of a beautiful memorial service in the park where Elke and Joseph presented a wreath on behalf of our school.

A big thank you to all of the families who took time out of their holidays to be part of this special occasion.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

3D Printing – The Future is Here!

As part of the Term 1 science unit, students in 4/5 Pandanus were heavily involved in digital technologies and the design process.

Students were presented with a design brief from the Bogangar Keyring Company. They then worked collaboratively to define survey questions and identify features of good keyrings before analysing the results.

Then the fun commenced. Students had to plan and produce a keyring using the Tinkercad program before it was produced as a three-dimensional object in a 3D printer. The results were amazing.

The task culminated with students evaluating peer creations based on the original survey results. Modifications and improvements were suggested to commence the design process again.

Thanks to the STEM Share program and the generosity of Byron Bay Public School for the use of the 3D printers, students were able to see and evaluate their designs as a real-world object. Be sure to check out the students’ designs in real life in the school office.

Easter 2019 - Term 1

Easter Hat Parade - Term 1

Last term saw us celebrating Easter early with our K-2 Easter Hat Parade.

The students’ and their families exceeded all expectations with some truly magnificent creations.

We sang songs and paraded our hats to the community, including some special visitors from Kingscliff Mini School and local family day cares.

We even had a special visit from a big white bunny who left a surprise treat for us in our classrooms!

Everyone had a really fantastic day!

Nicole Dempsey and Clara Williams.

Yrs 3-6 Currumbin Wildlife Experience

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Excursion!

Linked to our geography learning last term, Years 3 to 6 experienced a wonderful day exploring Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where we were dazzled by the Wild Flight show showcasing a diverse range of our birdlife who swooped in to put on an informative show.

Miss Bailey certainly felt the wind through her hair as a spectacular eagle glided overhead!

We learnt the cultural significance of our local Indigenous animal totems, their stories and cultural significance. Connecting animals and culture through story and shared experiences.

Then each class had a close up, hands on experience with some of our amazing Australian wildlife and learnt about the adaptions that make them so unique.

We had time to explore the park and meet the locals.

Learning with a fluffy, slippery, hopping, hooting twist!

Premier's Spelling Bee

The word lists for 2019 are now available online for students to practise. The class and school finals will be held early Term 3.

This is a great event designed to encourage all students to improve their vocabulary and spelling skills.

Premiers Spelling Bee link here.

Posters displaying the password are scattered around the school. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues it is unable to be distributed electronically.

Happy spelling!

For every $10 spent at Woolworths, you will earn a sticker for our school.

Stickers can be placed onto a sheet or put straight into the BPS box at Cabarita Woolies or at school in the front office.

Don’t forget to keep stickers from other Woolies locations and send them to school. Ask Grandparents and other family to collect as well.

Collect as many as you can until Tuesday 25th June 2019, while stocks last.

The more you collect, the more we can redeem for educational resources at the end of the program.

Have fun!

Cross Country Results:-

Well done to all students who competed in our school cross country last term. The conditions were challenging with our final race being completed in pouring rain! There were some absolutely amazing races which resulted in students sprinting to the finish line to win by the smallest of margins.

Thank you to all the parents who attended to make it such a fun and successful day.
