October School Holiday Special Edition

Principal's Message

We are looking forward to seeing our students as  they return to school on Monday 12 October.

Here's hoping you all enjoyed the delicious lemonade at our stall during the holidays and have had  a restful break.

Please do take the time to read our many updates in this newsletter in particular, changes for our enrolment procedures for students moving into Year 3.

Kerri Lovi

New enrolment procedures for our school to support transition into Year 3.

Our school has been working on developing new enrolment procedures with our Director, Educational Leadership and with the support of our neighbouring principals. We made a proposal to have a local school an option of for all of our students as they move into Year 3, regardless of their place of residence on the basis of graduating and transitioning together.

After a lengthy process, we are most pleased to advise that transition to Year 3 procedures for our students who graduate from Year 2 at our school are now included.  Our school shares an enrolment catchment with both Ashbury and Summer Hill Public Schools.

We have put together a special circumstance clause (section 6.2) that has now been included in our procedures.

Ashbury Public School or Summer Hill Public School are considered the local schools for students who transition from Year 2 from Yeo Park Infants School into Year 3.

We are very much looking forward to even greater connection with Ashbury and Summer Hill schools.  An example of this may be our 8 year old students having the opportunity to participate in Ashbury Public School's sporting carnivals next year. For our staff, greater options for professional learning and connections will be available.

Our website is in the process of updating the enrolment information.

Our official school facebook page is back online.

Our school facebook page can be found at: @yeoparkinfants

You may have noticed that for almost a year, we have not been able to access our school facebook page. After the help of our DoE social media department, and numerous attempts over months and months with facebook, we've been able to access and add posts to our facebook page.

Shortly, our facebook page will be synced with the DoE important updates so they automatically will be posted by DoE to our facebook page.

We encourage all parents, family and friends to join our school facebook page so that they are able to share in our days at school.

Book Week Character Parade

On Tuesday 20 October, our school will celebrate the CBCA book week. Students are able to celebrate and share their favourite book by dressing up as their favourite character. Students will be parading around our hall in costume and are encouraged to carry the book that their character is from. We endeavour to take lots of photos to upload to Seesaw and facebook for parents to share the day.

Seesaw

Throughout Term 3, staff trialled the use of SeeSaw with their classes. We are able to let you know that staff evaluated the uptake of Seesaw with our parents. We noticed that while 80% of our families initially completed the one time registration at the beginning of the year during home learning. However, with the new Seesaw posts from Term 3, we have up to 56% of parents viewing their child's online Seesaw portfolio.

Feedback from parents who are regularly using Seesaw has been extremely positive. In a final attempt to engage with more parents, you will have noticed that a hard copy of a note went home with all students at the end of last term. This note provided examples of Seesaw posts. a break down of the two different ways to engage with Seesaw and your child's unique code.

A parent who did join up after seeing the note sent home in the last week of school, commented that they had missed 94 posts and photos of their child at school throughout the past term.

Staff have agreed to check in first week back in Term 4 to again evaluate the engagement of parents. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers who have gone above and beyond in terms of the time taken out of hours in making posts on Seesaw for their classes. We certainly do have dedicated staff who put much of their own time and effort into building connections with our families. We would like nothing more than to see all of our families connecting.

Year 1 are preparing to become big buddies

On the days that our Year 2 students go to visit their new schools, our Year 1 students will become involved in activities to prepare for taking on their role as leaders of our school. Year 1 are certainly very excited to become the big leaders of our school.

Some of our Kinder 2021 students have started to come in to look at their new school uniforms. The first three weeks of Term 4 will see our other Kinder 2021 students come to school for some visits.

Halloween

While a Halloween disco and the ability to trick or treat impacted by health guidelines, we welcome students to dress up on Friday 30 October for Halloween. We ask that no toy weapons come to school on the day.
