Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in a new reading and numeracy check-in assessment in Term 3, 2020. The assessment for Year 5 will be scheduled from 17 August to 4 September 2020, and the assessment for Year 3 will be scheduled from 21 September to 23 October 2020. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor Year 3 and Year 5 student learning following the period of learning from home. The Check-in assessments will supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.
We continue to work around the latest health advice which states that school is safe for children but restrictions need to be placed on the number of adults allowed on school site. For this reason, parents are asked to not enter classrooms or the playground. Please follow all health advice and keep your child at home if they are unwell or have a respiratory illness. If your child has recently travelled to Victoria, they are required to isolate for a period of 14 days. Hand hygiene and physical distancing remain most important. Stay well and stay safe.
Mr Slyney will be returning from paternity leave on Monday. We would like to thank Miss Bottos for looking after his Swordfish. Miss Bottos will be teaching the Pufferfish until the end of the year. Mrs Peyton sends a big hello to all, she is doing well and will let us know when bub is born.
The lost property bins are now located next to the office.
There are quite a lot of clothing items, as well as drink bottles and lunch boxes which would like to be returned to their owners.
Please ask your child/ren to come and check these bins if they are missing items.
Parents are able to check the lost property bins of an afternoon, keeping in mind social distancing.
This term, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys.
Our staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a unique username and password. Where fewer than five students respond to a question, the results will be suppressed. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered during normal school hours.
This survey will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes.
Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please contact your child’s teacher.
More information about the survey and the research is available in English on the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation website: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
