Issue 2 2021
Term 1 Week 4
Heathcote Public School
We are already into Week 4 of term and we have hit the ground running. Kindergarten have settled in beautifully and their Year 6 buddies have been doing an amazing job. Most of our extracurricular activities are now underway including chess club, dance and band and we will have PSSA sport and garden gurus starting this week. It was lovely to see so many parents attend our parent information sessions last week, especially after the COVID restrictions have been limiting the amount of parent attendance at the school.
Assembly
Assembly will start again this week at 2:10pm on Thursday and parents are welcome to attend as long as they follow the COVID guidelines below. We will also livestream the assembly on Microsoft Teams for parents who are unable to attend. The current COVID-19 guidelines are:
New HOOSH Building
The new HOOSH building is scheduled to be delivered and installed tomorrow (Tuesday 15 February) which is very exciting. There will still be more work to be done before the building can be occupied, but it will be a big step towards completion taken tomorrow, depending on the weather. Please be aware that there could be a large number of trucks around tomorrow morning so please be extra careful when driving or walking to school.
2021 NSW Primary Dance Ensemble
Congratulations to Amber G and Keira W who have been successful in obtaining a position in the 2021 NSW Primary Dance Ensemble. These students will attend the ensemble each week at the AMPA Dance Studios, Alexandria. Well done girls!
School Photos
Please be aware that we have changed the date of school photos and these will now take place in Term 2 on Wednesday 19 May.
Access Ramp
Our school has had funding approved to improve access to the school for wheelchairs, strollers and physically impaired visitors. A new L-shaped concrete ramp will be installed at the main entrance of the school on Rosebery Street, going past the flagpole and back of the library. A new gate will also be installed so that the step can be bypassed. These works will mean that the Rosebery Street gate will need to be closed for about two weeks and we will use the double driveway gates instead.
Have a fantastic fortnight!

Principal

PSSA begins this week
A big thank you to everyone who joined the first 2021 P&C meeting last Tuesday night, joining either at home via zoom or in person at the school.
It was a productive meeting, with lots of new faces and great discussions for the new school year.
2021 AGM and Week 8 P&C Meeting
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is taking place on Tuesday 16 March. This will be followed by a general meeting. We encourage and welcome everyone to attend.
What happens at the AGM?
The 2020 year is reported on and a new P&C Executive team and committee will be elected.
We need a new P&C Executive in 2021 and we invite everyone to consider one of the below positions.
The "P&C Executive" is made up of the following five positions:
· President (currently vacant)
· Vice Presidents (two) (Chris Doel (retiring) and Tracie Junghans)
· Secretary (Kristy Estcourt, retiring)
· Treasurer (Kylie Bloomfield, retiring)
Please note there are also a number of fundraising and event roles that will be determined by the Fundraising Coordinator. These roles will be allocated early in 2021. If you would like to coordinate an event, please contact us to let us know.
How to nominate
For those who do wish to nominate for a position please complete the nomination form which will be sent home this week and return it to the P&C slot of the money collection box by 3:00pm Monday 15 March 2021.
Becoming a member
If you would like to be involved, vote or perhaps nominate yourself or someone else for one of the positions you do need to be a current financial member. To do this all you need to do is complete the form which will be sent home this week and pay your $1 membership fee – you can put your form and payment in the school P&C pigeonhole / mailbox or just drop it into the office. Please return this by Monday 15 March 2021.
Forms
The nomination form and membership application form will be sent home this week. Please note the P&C is a team effort and no single person is responsible for running and managing the P&C.
Please feel free to contact me or any of the other current P&C Executives if you have any questions or approach the current position holder directly.
Please feel free to contact me or any of the other current P&C Executives if you have any questions or approach the current position holder directly.
Thank you,
Tracie Junghans
Vice President
The P&C has received a range of feedback from the school community. As a result, moving forward, each grade will have ownership of a fundraising event or initiative each year.
We are looking for coordinators who will be the key contact for each grade to work with the P&C Fundraising Coordinator and deliver amazing activities that form part of the school calendar.
The grade coordinator will represent the grade’s wants and needs as well coordinate grade representatives to fulfil the needs of the fundraising initiative.
Please reach out to Rebecca Bussell if interested. A note will coming home shortly.
To stay up to date with the discussion join the P&C Facebook Group “Heathcote Public School P&C” https://www.facebook.com/groups/393271318718015

We are very excited to let families know that we have established a partnership with Waterfall Public School Before and After School Care (BASC). Whilst we do see positions move and become available, we know a number of people are struggling and we want to help. We acknowledge that a number of families urgently require care both before and after school and we have had conversations with Waterfall BASC to utilise them as a temporary service for families until spots become available at our HOOSH. The Waterfall P&C President spoke at our last P&C meeting explaining the service they want to offer to our community as our HOOSH is currently full for 2021. The wonderful Waterfall BASC will transport children by private bus to and from Heathcote Public School where families will either pick up or drop off directly to Waterfall BASC. Our HOOSH will continue to keep you on our waitlist and when positions become available we will engage you directly as we currently do now. This will mean families will need to complete paperwork for Waterfall BASC and fall under their service agreement for the days children are in their attendance. HOOSH and Waterfall BASC will work together to ensure all children feel safe and are still apart of the school community. Waterfall BASC standard fees apply and there is no additional charge for the bus service between both schools. We would like to see if families would be interested and want to know more information please get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can provide you with more information this service.
As always, if your child is away sick or you have travel plans during the school term which coincide with the days your child attends HOOSH, please let us know when you advise the school.
If you require urgent casual placements please contact Alana on 0437 001 752 or email hoosh@live.com.au
