Reflection

Be Alert! Stay Awake!

The Master will return!

It’s Advent

The vestments change, the Gospel changes as the Church moves into a new cycle

recalling and celebrating God’s coming to our world in Jesus.

Lord Jesus,

Master of both the light and the darkness,

We wait in hope.

We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.

We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.

We who are blessed in so many ways

Long for the complete joy of your kingdom.

We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.

We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.

To you we say, ‘Come Lord Jesus’.

Leadership and Management

To  Our Lady’s School Community,

I trust that you have all had a great week and are taking some time to smell the roses! Thank you to all the P.E.B and P.F.A members for joining us yesterday in thanks for your commitment and generosity of spirit towards our school. Another busy week awaits!

School Swimming Trails

This Monday, our students from years three to six will be involved in school swimming trials for the 2019 District Swimming Carnival. The trials will once again be held at Aqua Link in Box Hill and will begin promptly at 11.30am. Thank you to the parents that have offered to assist on the day. Special thanks to Jane, our PE Teacher for her outstanding organisation of the event. We are all looking forward to the day! Hope to see you there.

Christmas Carols

Our Annual Christmas Carols will take place next Thursday, December 6th @5.30pm. Following the Carols our fantastic P,F.A will once again be hosting a BBQ. Please bring along a chair or a blanket to sit on. The students have been busy practicing their songs and are very much looking forward to it.

Students are asked to wear their school uniform with a touch of Christmas.

Kris Kindle

Over the coming weeks, students will be focusing on the Season of Advent. As a catholic school, this time of the year invites us to think of those that are less fortunate. Therefore we encourage students to consider purchasing a small gift to donate to St Vinnie's instead of engaging in a Kris Kindle activity. I thank you  for your support in this matter.

Baby Congratulations

Congratulations to Caleb (Foundation) and his family on the arrival of baby Alexandra Clara, born on the 27th November.

Have a great weekend.

Annie Engellenner

Transition for Foundation 2019

This morning we welcomed the 2019 Foundation students and families for their final transition morning. The students participated in a range of activities in their buddy groups.

In the multi purpose centre parents were able to observe our Foundation teacher Miss Katie Lynch lead a reading session with the children. Mr Tony Dalton and Mrs Antonella Coloretti continued to facilitate conversations around family/school partnerships.

Our Lady’s Primary School students set sail on Albert Park Lake

49 students from grade 5 & 6 pushed the boat out on Albert Park Lake this term to start learning the basics of sailing while enjoying the water and outdoors.

Over three weeks students participated in the level 1 program, spending three hours per week learning all about rigging a boat, sailing, water safety and fun sailing games at The Boatshed, Australian Sailing’s Victorian training centre.

Australian Sailing’s Adam Gristwood, who manages The Boatshed mentioned the very positive feedback he had received from the team of instructors who noted the students were “the best group we have each week” in particular noting their safe behaviour and excellent listening skills.

He went on to comment that “The safe and enclosed waters provide a great place for students to learn the basics of sailing while gaining important life skills including working in teams, self-reliance, problem solving, decision making and self-confidence. It’s really about building those core personal skills and having fun.”

From here students can continue sailing in our holiday and weekend programs including Tackers for 7-12 year olds and OutThere for 12 – 17year olds. Students can also get involved in recreational sailing at their local club or Discover Sailing Centre.”

The Boatshed is now taking registrations for our summer programs and expressions of interest from schools who may want to participate in introductory sessions and sailing programs throughout 2019.

For more information contact Adam on 03 9088 7207 and info@theboatshed.net.au , or head to the website www.theboatshed.net.au.

All accounts must be finalised by Friday, December 7th. We would appreciate a prompt response because this income is integral to meeting our budget and maintaining our cash flow. If you need to speak to Fr Mark or myself regarding your situation, please be assured that all discussions are conducted in confidence.

For fees left outstanding beyond Friday, December 7th, a meeting with Fr Mark and myself will be arranged.

Tuckshop News

Please note that next Friday the 7th of December will be the final tuckshop day for this year. There will be no Honey Soy Chips or Party Sausage Rolls on this day.

At this stage we still have not had anyone express interest in coordinating tuckshop next year. Please consider getting involved in this way as the children love it and it would be unfortunate if it were no longer available.

Thank you

2019 Class Reps

Class reps play a really important role in ensuring effective communication between parents and teachers and being a welcoming and positive presence in our school community.

If you are interested in being a class rep next year would you please let Michelle Feltscheer (mkandmf@hotmail.com) or Annie Engellenner know. Although class lists have not been finalised for 2019 we are seeking expressions of interest in preparation for our start to the new year.

Parents End of Year Celebration

Given how busy this time of year is, and how many families have children across multiple year levels, we (class reps) have decided to go with one function for all parents to celebrate the end of the year/Christmas! Here's hoping it makes it a touch easier for everyone...
