Mrs Broderick has scheduled an alternate time with families of Year 1/2 as she will be enjoying some Long Service Leave the last two weeks of term. An email has been sent to parents in regards to organising a time to come in and discuss their child's progress . Parents in P12 are able to book a time with both Tricia McKinley and Rosemary Broderick if desired.

If for some reason you are unable to attend on this evening, please contact your child's teacher for an alternate time.

Wedding Bells

Congratulation to Bridget (Miss Hall) & Kyle who  will marry this weekend. We celebrated this week with a special assembly where the children presented Bridget with a special book of letters and cards.  Bridget received a beautiful gift from the whole School Community and celebrated  a very special morning tea with staff.

Local School Community Funding -Chicken Coop & Run

The local government is providing grants to schools for between $1000-$20,000 dollars for Community projects. A long awaited passion is to continue to develop our Environmental hub (Kitchen Garden and native planting) by adding a sturdy Chicken Coop and run.

Such a project creates an amazing array of environmental, educational and social/emotional benefits for young and old.

Applications need to be submitted by 30th September and if successful we would be informed early December. This means the project would start early 2020.

Privacy & Collection Notices

We are always updating our Privacy & Collection Policies as well as other School policies e.g. Child Safety Policy, to keep current with an ever changing world. Links to our policies can be found on our School Website. Next year in 2020 we head into our School Review  and VRQA ( Victorian Registration Qualification Authority) check which is undertaken every 4 years).

CEMSIS

Every year, we pause to ask for feedback and listen to parents, children and staff about our learning community and to seek ways we can celebrate our many achievements and  reflect on ways to continually improve. Our School Improvement Surveys have been renamed and redesigned, to obtain a whole range of feedback about St Timothy's School. A new survey called CEMSIS will be sent to a random selection of families. The survey is not compulsory, but we ask for your support to complete these online surveys which can be completed in your language of choice.

Swimming- 10 Day Intensive Program

Our children will attend a 10 day Intensive Swimming Program at Aqualink Nunawading in the first two weeks of Term 4. Permission forms & forms seeking 'Parent Helpers' will be sent home next week along with request for payment. It is very important that all children from P-4 attend Swimming.

In addition via government funding , we are able to offer a one week program for our Year 6 students.

This year all children will attend the Swimming lesson from 12:30-1:10pm, leaving at approx 12:00 and  returning to school for lunch time. We will need some parent help to walk to and from pool and help in the change rooms for younger students.

Swimming is a vital part of the curriculum and it is expected, with the exception of health concerns, all children attend.

Learning & Teaching

STEAM( Science Technology, Engineering Art & Maths)

This week students in Years Prep, 1, 2, 5 and 6 made our own musical instruments using recycled materials like milk cartons and cardboard rolls. First we had to create a prototype. A prototype is like a draft, it’s a tester of the actual product.

We made drums, guitar-like instruments and things that you blow into, each of them different and unique. We were focusing on how to make high pitch and low pitch noises. A few people used rubber bands and made them tighter to make a higher sound and looser to make a lower sound.

Another thing we needed to look at was vibrations. If it couldn’t vibrate the sound would not last as long and possibly make no sound at all.

Some instruments didn’t work as well as we thought they would and some worked perfectly.

Sometimes it had the wrong pitch or made the wrong sound but it only encouraged us to work harder and try again. (Abigail)
