What has our learning looked like in the past few weeks? We'll you'd think with the end of term approaching and Mrs D would ease of a little, well no siree, not a chance! In Mathematics we have been revising time on analogue and digital clocks, revising our additive strategies and collecting and analysing data. Data has been fun because we collected data on how we think the school could be improved. Our class came up with fantastic ideas, including treehouses, music and art rooms, school pets, ziplines and swimming pools. After shortlisting our ideas using tally marks, we then re-voted and created a graph. After analysing our data, we then recorded the findings and we have now made an appointment with Mrs Hughes to share our ideas and findings. Fingers crossed, maybe we can get a waterslide to go with the pool! We won't tell Mrs Hughes that the next day we graphed our favourite dragons and are hoping she'll get us one of those too! Mrs D said our reading has gone through the roof! She doesn't mean the real roof, but we know she's so proud of each of us. We have been learning to write and identify compound and complex sentences. We learnt that compound sentences have two independent clauses and that both of these have a subject and a verb within them. We know to join our 2 independent clauses together using coordinating conjunctions. (Acronym - FANBOYS) Then because we are so clever Mrs D introduced us to complex sentences! These have both an independent and dependent clause and use a subordinate conjunction (Acronym - I SAW A WABUB). We have also been revising possessive nouns and leaning about the complexities of quotation marks. Tricky, tricky work here in S1D! Swimming has been fun.Tthe bus is exciting and not only are we learning to swim, but some of us are also learning rapidly learning self-help skills! Can you believe we are expected to organise ourselves, right down to our shoes and socks! In creative arts our Van Gogh Stary night works are coming along nicely, and Mrs D says our ocean weaving is blowing her mind. We must be doing a brilliant job! We are also learning a song in sign language that you'll get to hear on presentation day. There's so much more to our everyday, this is only a glimpse, so I'm sure you can understand why we are tuckered out when we get home. That's it from the busy bee's in S1D!
At New Lambton Heights Infants School we acknowledge that we teach, learn and play together on the traditional country of the Awabakal people, who are the custodians of this land. We pay our respects to their Elders past present and emerging.
