Rawlinson Primary School News

No. 34 – 3rd November 2022

PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Dear Parents

A few housekeeping matters that we need to remind everyone about.

Camera’s – phones, watches, and other recording devices.

It is illegal to take photos or record events at school without permission from the Principal.  Permission is given at whole school and class events such as sports carnivals and assemblies.

However it is not given to parents who are on school grounds to pick students up or to any student using their own device at any time.

This is one of the reasons that phones are banned at school.  With the advancement of technology we are now finding students have camera’s on their watches.  Please do not allow your children to bring any device to school that has the ability to record or take photos, the temptation is too great.

All phones, brought to school by students, need to be dropped into the Deputies office in the morning and picked up again on the way home.

Playground after school.

The Adventure Playground outside D Block is a fantastic place to play, it is however the place where we have the most accidents and therefore we have a teacher on duty there when ever the students are at play.

It is essential that we have the rule that no student can play on the Adventure Playground equipment after school without being supervised by their parents.  It is for their safety.

This means that that they cannot be supervised by the parent of a friend. No parent, No play.

Classes 2023

All staff put an enormous amount of energy into creating class lists for the following year and this process can be found as a Policy document on our Website.

Factors considered by staff include.

 Student’s abilities.

 Gender balance - especially if the class has spilt grades.

 Individual student needs – academic/social/emotional/physical/medical/behavioural.

 Student relationship and friendship network.

 Previous class placements/teachers.

 Parental requests:

o Parental requests need to be made yearly as previous requests are not considered.

o Parents who have children with particular needs are invited to state their concerns in writing to the Principal for consideration. An invitation for this will be advertised in the newsletter and must be submitted to the Principal via email. Only requests received in writing will be considered.

o All parental requests will be considered, but a guarantee will not be given.

o Requests for specific teachers and/or classes are not accepted, as there must be an educational reason based on individual student needs.

o The Principal will inform staff, if s/he considers it applicable, of parent input prior to the formation of classes.

Requests by parents can now be made.

If you do have a request for 2023 please note the points under Parent Requests.  It must be in writing to the Principal, Rawlinson.PS@education.wa.edu.au and although friendship is considered by staff, it is not the only consideration and there are far more complex considerations that need to be made.

Kind regards
