St. Joseph's Primary Penshurst.

ISSUE: Term 2 Week 7, 2022.

School Vision

St Joseph’s Penshurst, as partners in Catholic education and with our school community, pursues fullness of life for all.

Acknowledgement of Country

At St. Joseph’s Primary School we pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land, the Kolorer gunditj people and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

The area around Mount Rouse is the country of the Kolorer gunditj clan of Aboriginal people. Their title is derived from their name for Mount Rouse which is Kolor. The permanent spring that is now located within the Penshurst Botanic Gardens was a traditional meeting place for Aboriginal people in the region.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hopefully you have had an enjoyable Long Weekend with your friends and family. Even though shortened weeks can alter school routine and accelerate our Term, they provided some relief to student and staff illness and absence. Hopefully our families have a clearer run with COVID and flu in Term 3 when there are no public holidays!

School Closure Day, Monday, August 1st.

A day that we will need to set in our calendars is our next School Closure Day. Monday, August the first will be a day that St Joseph Staff will be utilising professional development to focus on the learning and teaching of English curriculum, particularly reading and writing skills.

Catholic School Culture

Father, Son & Holy Spirit

God of love, three in one,

God the Father, guide us, that we may be a model of faith and of life to others.

God the Son, inspire us to live lives of service in the world.

God the Spirit, be always with us as we continue to grow as independent, capable and faith filled people.

We ask this in the name of the  Father, Son & Holy Spirit,

Amen.

This resource is designed not only for Children’s Liturgy of the Word celebrated at Sunday Mass in the parish but also for families with young children to use at home.

June 12th - The Most Holy Trinity.

God is a mystery. We cannot explain God with words or pictures, but we can talk about what God is like. What is God like for you? Maybe like a friend who listens to you. Maybe like a mother who cares for you. Maybe like a father who fixes things for you. Maybe God is like the ocean which is powerful.

Learning and Teaching

School Reports & Assessment

As we approach the end of Semester 1, our teachers are working hard to ensure they have an accurate assessment picture of their students. This assessment will inform the reports which parents will receive. School reports will be sent home next week with Learning Conversations being on Wednesday 10th of August in Term Three. The report documents and the Learning Conversations go hand in hand with each other. Parents and teachers are able to discuss the learning progress of students with examples of learning available to celebrate.

A Week of Swimming Confidence.

Community Engagement

Mini Vinnies Market Celebration - Thursday 23rd June.

Our Mini Vinnies Market will be held on the second last day of term (23rd June). You hav probably seen the student's advertisement posted in windows around town.  You can support the event by attending on the day between 12 and 2pm to sample some food stalls, purchasing some second hand goods or simply visiting the classrooms to view the students recent work on display.

The students have been preparing the stalls with Catholic 'Mission' as their focus. To be inspired by Mission we are asking the students to have the social and emotional wellbeing of individuals, families and the community in mind.

It is not too late to donate any items from home that could be sold at our stall. If you have any unwanted books, toys, and/or clothes etc please send them to school with your child.

Child Safety

Cold and Flu and Covid Reminders.

Now that it is Winter, it is very important that you keep your child at home if they are showing any signs or symptoms of the cold & flu, they have a persistent cough or are generally unwell.

We have plenty of RATs available to be collected from the office, it is important that you continue to test your child as symptoms arise. This is the best way of keeping our School community safe.

Please remember to contact the school office if:

  • Your child tests positive to COVID and notify us of the date of your positive test
  • Your child is a close household contact of anyone who tests positive to COVID
  • If your child is a close contact they are still able to attend school but MUST wear a mask at all times when inside (unless they have an exemption). They must also undertake a RAT daily for 5 out of the 7 days.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding with these matters. It helps us to keep everyone as safe as possible and keep our school open.

Eleven new Child Safety Standards will come into place on July 1st.

Key changes include new requirements:

● to involve families and communities in organisations’ efforts to keep children and young people safe

● for a greater focus on safety for Aboriginal children and young people

● to manage the risk of child abuse in online environments

● for greater clarity on the governance, systems and processes to keep children and young people safe.
