FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

What a lovely end to the Term. Both in the Junior and Secondary Schools, there were events that marked the season. Additionally, our ongoing support for Charity work was again in evidence with the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs and Head Above Water being the recipients of collections. Here is an excerpt from Mrs Finch outlining the impressive effort from Levi for the swim:

It was wonderful to see such great school support towards this worthy charity and I hope the swim at school today for the senior students was a huge success. I did want to share a story about my son Levi, (P6) from the Junior School and his involvement in the swim. Levi has participated in this event since its inception, with his first swim in the dark and the rain at the age of 9, with his Dad promising $5 a lap to spur him on... Levi swam 23 laps that year. Fast forward to this year, and Levi set himself a target of 60 laps. 3 days before the event he decided it would be a great idea to seek out some sponsorship with a fundraising goal of $500. The end result was 66 laps swum and over $1300 raised. We are so proud of his community spirit and commitment to this fantastic local charity. Levi also always swims proudly in his Pittwater House kit.

We are so proud of you Levi, and all the students and their families who have supported this charity.

Our Junior students rose to the occasion for the Easter Hat Parade and when the K to Year 2s returned to their classrooms, they saw that Easter Bunny had visited their room whilst they were in the Hall… and then our Years 1 and 2 students finished the Term with their swimming Carnival. A happy way to farewell the learning and wider opportunities that the Term has provided.

Now is a time for everyone to breathe and relax in ways that will complement each family’s experience across these past ten weeks.

My congratulations for the achievements of the Term past, and best wishes to you all for the Easter Recess.

Book Review

'As Happy as Here' - Jane Godwin

Review by Jasmyn (C9)

'As Happy as Here' is a heart-warming story about three teenage girls, Evie, whose sporting career is now in jeopardy, Lucy, whose always at the hospital, and Jemma, who has a confusing past, find themselves sharing a hospital ward, a place where you have no choices. But when the girls witness a crime in the park below their window, they find themselves bonding over trying to solve the crime, and an unlikely friendship forms. The experience will change each of them forever, and force Evie to confront what it means to grow up, and how to live truly, with courage, as yourself. This book takes you through themes such as hospitals, illness, leukemia, identity, difference, coming of age, friendship, crime and mystery. It really is a fabulous story taking you into what it really means to define find yourself, and I would definitely recommend this to girls a little older as it can be confronting. I believe girls from ages 13-16 would really enjoy this book and should definitely give it a read. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars .

GENERAL INFORMATION

From the Health Centre

The Health Centre would like to inform parents that we have had multiple episodes of vomiting and diarrhoea across the ECC, Junior and Senior Schools. Please watch for any signs of nausea, abdominal pains, vomiting and/or diarrhoea in your child.

NSW Health advise anyone with vomiting and diarrhoea must not return to school within 48hrs of the last episode of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Gastroenteritis is known to spread easily amongst children. Please be considerate of others and keep your child at home until they are well enough and clear of all symptoms for 48hrs. The parents of children reporting to school with these symptoms will be called to collect them immediately.

If there are any questions or concerns, please contact the Health Centre 9972 5734.

Community and Family Studies Initiative

Pittwater House has significantly surpassed our aim in collecting 1,000 bread tags. We are now at an outstanding number of bread tags, a total of 1578.

Thank you to all the staff, students and families who have brought in their bread tags over the past three weeks. This is a huge achievement.

Together we did it!

Over the Easter Break Mrs Young will drop off the tags to one of the collection points on the Northern Beaches.

The tags will be recycled and the funds will be used to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people in South Africa.

Thank you for being part of this wonderful charity.
