Emotional Wellbeing Week

Last week was Emotional Wellbeing Week up here on the hill. Each afternoon all students enjoyed some mindfulness time with peaceful music playing. We had modified homework and we spent time thinking about being kind. The Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders also organised several activities for the students to participate in.

Sienna, Mia and Arielle organised a quiet room with craft activities. The K-2 children had a great time playing with Play Doh, colouring in, boardgames and fun activities on the floor. The Play Doh and colouring in was very popular so we had to move into another room for more space. The 3 - 6 children had an amazing time with clay, finger knitting, colouring and more games. Even though they were a bit loud, they quietened down in the end. The leaders loved being responsible for these activities.

Another group of Wellbeing Leaders worked on a giant sign which said…Be The “I” in Kind. Once the leaders had painted the sign, students could have their photo taken, standing in front of the sign to be the “I” in Kind. These leaders enjoyed seeing everyone’s smile and they can’t wait to do more activities next term.

Yoga was yet another activity that the students could be involved in. Monday was the first day of Yoga with K-2. Eisha and Mila started with a couple of yoga moves and then got into Cosmic Kids yoga. They finished with some calm cards with positive affirmations on the back. They were pleased with the success of their yoga activities.

The Wellbeing Leaders would like to thank all the children who participated in their activities and all the teachers who helped them out with planning and lending their classrooms. They can’t wait to plan some more Wellbeing fun in Term 2.

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

Welcome to the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10.

2023 Challenge dates

Students can include any books read from the end of the 2022 challenge on their 2023 reading record. Key dates for the 2023 challenge are:

27 February 2023 - challenge opens for student entries Friday 18 August 2023 - challenge closes for student entries.

All students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 at BPPS will complete the challenge at school.

Year 3 – Year 6 students are required to read twenty books which can now include up to ten choice books. During library lessons they will be shown how to add the books onto their reading records on the PRC site and they can then add their entries at school or at home.

Happy Reading,

Carolyn Farrugia, Teacher Librarian

Years 4 to 6 Winter PSSA Sport Trials

Trials for Winter PSSA teams will commence on Friday 24 March 2023.  The format of the Winter PSSA season is yet to be decided by the Pittwater PSSA Committee. Due to the challenges experienced by some schools in obtaining bus transport, alternate options to weekly games are being considered.

Years 4 to 6 students have provided their trial preferences for soccer, rugby league, netball and AFL. Students will trial for their first preference on Friday.  If vacancies exist in teams then second preference trials will be held the following week (Week 11).

Election Day BBQ – Saturday 25 March 2023

We are very excited to be running another Election Day BBQ on Saturday 25 March 2023 so tell your friends and family to head on up to our school on the hill to vote and grab themselves something delicious to eat!

Enormous thanks goes to McGrath Pittwater for once again supporting our fundraising efforts by sponsoring the event.  We are truly thankful for their generosity as this gives us the opportunity to raise much needed funds for our school.

Thank you also to the parents who have volunteered to help on the day.  We understand how precious weekend family time is and really do appreciate you giving up some of that time to support our fundraising efforts.  Without you, running the event would not be possible.

McGrath Pittwater are also running their own inhouse Easter competition and they are inviting our Bilgola Plateau Public School students to pop along to their office in Avalon to join in the fun.  Full details are provided in the flyer.

Uniform Shop

We have a wide range of new and preloved school uniform items available for sale.  Please feel free to drop into the uniform shop on either a Tuesday or Friday between 8.30am-10.30am.

If you are not able to make it to the shop, or would prefer to shop online, please place orders for new uniform items via Flexischools. All items ordered online will be delivered to students in their classrooms.

We would also love to take any secondhand uniform items, that are in good condition, off your hands if you have some that you no longer need.  Please note however, we are only able to accept school regulation uniform items (i.e. nothing bought from other stores) that are in good enough condition for resale.

All proceeds from the sale of second-hand uniform items go straight back into funding initiatives for our children at the school so your support is important and very much appreciated.

Sausage Sizzle Lunch Specials

The sausage sizzle lunch special was hugely popular when we ran the event last year, so we have decided to bring it back again.  However, this time we will split the event into two:

K-2 students: Tuesday 28 March 2023

3-6 students: Tuesday 4 April 2023

Orders for the lunch specials are to be placed via Flexischools with the system closing for orders at 4.00pm on the day before each of the events.

Recess Hot Cross Bun Special

On the last day of Term 1, just as we are about to head into the Easter break, the canteen will be running an over the counter Hot Cross Bun sale.

Buns will be available for purchase for $2 from the canteen at recess on Thursday 6 April 2023.  All sales will be cash only on the day – the sale will not be available for preordering on Flexischools.

We are looking for 4 volunteers to help on the day from approximately 9.30am until 11.30am.  Please contact president@bilgolapandc.com.au if you are free and would love to help with this fun event.  First come first served.

OOSH and Camp Bilgola News

Children enjoyed a variety of different activities and experiences this week including water play, gardening, creative theatre and celebrating St Patrick’s Day.

Our Commitment to Quality Improvement

We are currently reviewing our Quality Improvement Plan which is how we ensure we are continually improving and changing our practices to ensure we are meeting the needs of the families we care for. Please email the office with any suggestions or feedback you have that we can use as part of our process of quality improvement. Quality improvement is vitally important and, so far, has facilitated several key upgrades including:

· Outdoor play area upgrades, including the cubby house and Astro turf

· Concrete court

· Perimeter fencing for safety

· New indoor resources

· Above ratio and staffing to provide quality care to children

Celebrating culturally important dates is a crucial part of an inclusive service. After critically reflecting on how we program and plan for cultural inclusion we are committed to moving away from tokenistic practices and embedding culturally diverse and inclusive experiences and practices into our weekly program. Our amazing educational Leader is working with educators to ensure our practices are inclusive and capture diversity and celebrate differences.

Camp Bilgola

Vacancies are filling fast so don’t forget to get your Camp Bilgola bookings in. BASC vouches expire in June, so this is the last session of Camp where they can be applied. We have a wonderful variety of activities and experience lined up.
