Book Week Character Parade

Book Week is being celebrated across the school this week. Students will have the opportunity to read the winning books from the Children's Book Council Awards,  read with buddies and read outside and around the school.  We are all looking forward to dressing up, sharing book characters, and connecting with parents and community when they come in to share this wonderful event with our students.

The Book Week Character Parade is  Wednesday 24th August after roll marking.

Book Fair

Scholastics Book Fair is coming to MPPS!

Book Fair is like a mini pop up store with students having the opportunity to buy a book or two,

Next week, Book Fair will be open in the library from Wednesday to Friday. Students who have library lessons on Wednesday and Thursday can create wish lists to take home and share with parents and carers. Book Fair will be open before school and lunch times on Wednesday and Thursday, and after school on Thursday and Friday.

Students will receive a flyer providing more information about online purchases and items available for sale.

Learner Qualities - Being a curious learner

Learning in Year 5

5E are learning all about natural disasters. We are learning how they occur, their impact and how they are measured.

Last week Mr Grover visited our class to help us program and code a microbit that transmitted and received the disaster level of an earthquake. We looked at the symbols that identified how large the impact was of the earthquake and successfully sent signals to one another. This task was very enjoyable because it involved interesting coding and it consolidated what we have learned so far in Geography this term.

Attendance Matters

As part of our school Strategic Directions, we continue our work on attendance. The focus for the fortnight and beyond, will be partial attendances. These are the minutes lost each day with being late for school. This also covers the times when children are picked up early or have ongoing appointments that do not have Principal approval through the Exemption process.

Each semester our school undergoes a deep reflection of attendance information by external staff from the Department of Education. This report has recently been shared with us. I have provided the snap-shot summary of this information below.  The overall attendance rate for Semester 1 was 89.7% with 66% students attended over, or equal to 90% of the time. Comparatively, the state average stands at 84%, the network average at 89.3% and SSG at 88.2%

Thanks again to all the families who make attendance matter.

Punctuality being late

We encourage all students to be at school  by 8.50am each day. This gives time for students to  say "hi" to their friends and go to the toilet before the bell.

The music bell commences at 8.55am. This gives students time to line up and be ready to move off to class.

At 9.00am class rolls are marked and attendance data is entered online.

If a student arrives after 9.00am they must visit the office first for a late note. They are not to sneak into classrooms. They are marked as a partial absence.

Our focus is to be "at school, on time, every day".
