Dear Parents & Community Members,

The School Board met on Monday evening for what proved to be a highly productive meeting. Once again, I am extremely grateful for the commitment this group of people provide to our school; not just during meetings but prior to and following each gathering.

Items discussed included:

  • A revised / reviewed Pastoral Care Policy
  • Review of data from community/staff and student surveys
  • Update on the1-to-1 Technology program
  • School Development Day dates for 2022

Further review and analysis will occur in week 8 with staff in order to continue to grow as a school community.

Speaking of community members, thanks to those vigilant parents around our school crossings where there are currently no attendants at present. Please ensure that you and your child(ren) are crossing at the marked cross walk areas. In addition to this please remind your child(ren) to ride their bikes safely on the local footpaths around the school grounds. We have had several near misses with smaller children and bikes and would appreciate your support with safety around our school.

Finally, what a fabulous culmination to our Book fair/Book Week celebrations with our annual dress up day last Friday.  The costumes were next level!!!

Glengarry Primary School has successfully implemented a 1:1 Technology Program for Year 4 students in 2022.  Other students who have participated in this program include children who are in a multiage class with Year 4 students.  As we begin preparing for the 2023 school year, we would like to invite parents of students in Year 2 & 3 to an afternoon information session, where the following will be discussed:

  • Overview of the program in 2022 - iPad guidelines
  • Timeline for implementation in 2023
  • Purchasing options with Winthrop

The information session will be taking place Monday 5 September at 3:15pm in the school Library.  If you are interested in attending, please register your attendance using the following link: http://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/4yt28

Book Week

What a fantastic Book Week!!!

Last week the students and staff were busy celebrating “Dreaming with eyes open” for Book Week.  It was great to see all the fabulous costumes on show at the much-anticipated Book Week Dress Up Day on Friday.  Students came to school dressed up as their most favourite book character and showed off their amazing costumes at the parade, such as Bluey, Wally, Billionaire Boy and Harry Potter.  Students donated an incredible $214.95 for the Story Dogs Literacy Program.

Thanks to all staff, students and parents for supporting the Book Fair and Book Week celebrations.   We managed to raise a generous $880.00 that will go back to the school in the form of wonderful books.  A big thank you to Louise Lockhart for helping Mrs Mackintosh throughout the week with sales, and especially a big thank you to Mrs Mackintosh for making our library look very “Dreamy” and for an incredibly successful Book Fair.

Wonderful World of Work

Room Four have been learning about Information Reports during Talk For Writing and discovering lots of amazing facts about Australian Wildlife.  After reading books and sharing ideas, the students created a bilby poster with a partner.  The students worked cooperatively to present their ideas through written text and drawings.

Miss Cole was very impressed with their efforts!

HOPE Kids Club

There is an exciting chance for young nature enthusiasts to join our school’s sustainability club.

When: Every Friday, 8:15-8:45 and we have already started.

Where: Glengarry Primary School, Garden Shed on ‘Alfreton Road’ side of the school.

What: Club projects will be guided by child interests.  Options include:

  • caring for the worms and compost
  • club games and competitions
  • growing plants
  • paper brick making
  • bushland observations:- birds, native plants & creatures
  • sharing knowledge with other children

Each child will need to have an adult carer with them, if they arrive without an adult they will be asked to go to the undercover area as normal (Grandparents are most welcome).

Please fill in the downloadable expression of interest if your child wishes to participate in this exciting club and have it returned to the office or email to Pam Algar at pam.algar@education.wa.edu.au as soon as possible.  Paper copies are also available at the school office.

Ms Algar will email you regarding whether your child can start straight away.  This should be possible unless numbers are too high, whereby we will stagger the attendances.

Room 11 - Maths

This week in Maths, Room 11 have been focusing on Addition and Subtraction.  Yesterday, parents and carers were invited to join students playing Monopoly.  While playing, the students were asked to complete some working out, showing money they had earned (credit) and spent (debit) throughout the game.

Everyone realised that keeping cumulative totals requires some serious brain power!

Thank you to everyone who helped- including our Chaplain Obang and Mr Westley, our practicum teacher from ECU.

Pre-Primary Father's Day

Pre-Primary students and their special family member created fond memories in the classroom yesterday.

Nesting box update

On Monday a galah checked out our nesting box!  He/she inspected it three times in 40 minutes.  We are hoping that over the next few days it might feel more confident to go inside so we can get a better look.

You can check out the footage here.

Wonder Recycling Rewards

Thank you to everyone that has been collecting and bringing in their bread bags.

Can you please continue to encourage your child to bring in their bread bags to Room 2 on Friday.  We only have 2 more Fridays to collect!

So far, we have filled up 3 of the 5 boxes!  It would be awesome to fill all of them.

The competition runs until 9th of September and then I will post off the boxes.  We get awarded points to use on a range of sports equipment. We also go into the running to win an adult exercise circuit.

A fantastic result Darren!

SunSmart - School Hats

Students must wear their navy blue 'bucket' hats in Terms 1 and 4 when not undercover.  If your child does not have a hat, now is the time to head over to Lowes.

Beginning next term, students not wearing their hats at recess and lunch time will be directed to an undercover area.  Please ensure your child's hat is labelled with their name so that it may be returned to them promptly if found.

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Student Support

Our core message at Glengarry Primary School is that We Care.

We support our students in many ways to have a healthy mind and strong friendships.  I noticed our students are respectful of themselves and others.

It was a great opportunity for me to play and hang out at lunch time with these awesome and special pupils, the 'Building Buddies'.  I’m delighted to be one of the lighthouse people for the students at school.  I am also delighted to provide them social and emotional support so they can be at their best.
