Term 4 Week 5: 7th November - 11th November 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 5 Term 4!

Stage 2 Excursion

This morning we farewelled our Stage 2 students and staff on their excursion to Camp Toukley. They will have an amazing action packed two days and have snagged perfect camp weather. I look forward to seeing photos and hearing their stories about their adventures.

 Kindergarten Orientation

This Wednesday we see our second of our three formal Kindergarten Orientation sessions. This year we have combined the best from our past few years to come up with a format that includes parents but also allows us to interact with our students on their own in small groups. This week the student will come into the classroom not accompanied by parents. Our staff will be doing observations to best place students for the following year.

 Attendance

We continue to receive a significantly high number of extended leave application for holidays. I remind parents of the Department of Education School Attendance Policy

1.1   Section 22 of the Education Act (1990) states that it is the duty of the parent of a child of compulsory school age to cause the child:

  • to be enrolled at, and to attend, a government school or a registered non-government school

1.2 All students who are enrolled at school, regardless of their age, are expected to attend that school whenever instruction is provided.

3.1 Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.

Also The Student Attendance in Government School-Procedures states

14.3. A principal should not accept a reason for travel during school term if it is not in the best interests of the student. Educational, social and participation reasons, which should be specified on the Application

14.4. Travel is considered to be domestic or international travel for the purpose of a family holiday, family business, bereavement or other reasons, which should be specified on the application

14.5. Principals should consult with parents about the intention of the travel and in the case of family holidays encourage parents to take holidays with their child during school vacation periods.

Make My Day

This morning five Kindergarten boys made my day! Albie and Nash from KP came to read. The boys were very excited and did an amazing job. Both read fluently and accurately, well done boys you are amazing! Kelly and Robbie from KT also visited. These boys brought their writing. Both boys wrote legibly with finger spacing and correct use of punctuation. They were also able to correctly read their sentences. Great work boys you are highflyers! Finally, Lucas from KT shared his number activity. Lucas used a number line to complete 10 take aways without an error. Lucas you are a Maths Star!

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is LEADERSHIP

Showing LEADERSHIP means inspiring others by being

respectful and confident in group situations in the

classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show LEADERSHIP we use our WISE OWL.

This strength is important for our mental health because we feel proud when we inspire someone.

    You can display LEADERSHIP by:

  • being fair when deciding what to do as a group and listening to each person
  • coming up with a game and organizing others to play in a respectful way

Set yourself a ‘LEADERSHIP’ challenge today!

Borrowing Reminder

As the end of the year zooms closer, please watch out for notes advising you that your child has an overdue book. We would like all books back safely in the library before end-of-year stock take  which starts in a few weeks.

Did you know that by reading for just 10 minutes a day, you’ll learn over 600, 000 words in one year? That’s more words than the number of people living in all of Tasmania.

Canteen 2023

As we plan for a big year in 2023, we still have a few vacancies on our volunteer roster  – in particular we are looking for people to help out on Thursdays and Fridays.  If you can spare 2 days a term, your support would be greatly appreciated – it is not to complicated, you are only needed for 4 hours and our customers are super friendly and very cute!  New to the school – a great way to meet people?  Get a group of friends together and catch up once a month. If you can help, please see Jo in the canteen or email us – cavescanteen@gmail.com

Sushi Day

We are going to have a Sushi day on Tuesday 22nd Nov. Pre ordered on the QKR app. Orders close on Wednesday 16th Nov. No other food will be available on this day. Ice blocks will still be available over the counter. We will have Chicken teriyaki  and Vegetarian ones available

Ordering Uniforms

The Uniform Shop operates online all year round – orders placed via QKR will be delivered to classrooms throughout the week.  Alternatively, you can request that orders are left at the office for you to collect.

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.  Or if you have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

Uniform Shop – TERM 4 OPENING HOURS

We will be reopening the School Uniform Shop on site for Term 4 2022 – on Wednesday mornings from 8:45am – 9:30am.  This is mainly to assist our new Kindy families with planning their uniform needs – but all families are welcome!

Price Increase

Our Uniform Suppliers have passed on a number of price increases in the past 2 years which we avoided passing on to our families.  However, with a further price rise we have reviewed all prices and there are some changes to come into effect from Term 4 2022.

There is some good news to go with this – we have negotiated a price DROP for our sport shirts so they will actually reduce in price!!

Our school uniform range is still great value and we are significantly cheaper than other retailers on comparable items – eg. our school polos will be $30 from Term 4 whilst Lowes are selling them for $39.

To Order Uniforms

Place your order via the Qkr! App (quick, simple & our preferred option)

**You can link a credit card or debit card to the Qkr! App

If you need an order form to order/pay via direct deposit OR have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.
