Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Principal's Pen

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Thank you to all community members, staff and students who completed our recent School Surveys.  The data collected from these will help to inform our whole school planning for now and into the future.

If you haven't already been into the Library, best you use the last day of the book fair, Friday, August 19th, to check out the awesome class artwork and Book Fair display.  The effort that goes into this celebration each year is outstanding and I would like to make a special mention to Mrs Robyn Mackintosh for all her hard work coordinating this week.

Despite having our Interschool Cross country event postponed yet again, to the new date of Tuesday, September 6th, our students have shown resilience and a commitment to achieve great results.

Moving forward, our school will adopt a new Absentee messaging system from Monday, Week 6.  This will see parents and carers of students who are marked as an Unauthorised Absence (U) receive a text message. Please only respond to this message by ringing the school or submitting an Absentee Form via Skoolbag.  We appreciate your support with this new process as we iron out any hiccups along the way.

I look forward to seeing all the Book Week costumes next Friday, August 26th!!

Parking Before and After School

We are still observing parents parking in the staff car park as well as using it as a drop off zone for their children.  Parking or walking through the Staff Car Park is actively discouraged, even if parents/carers are walking with children – this is not modelling appropriate road sense.

Please note that the Staff Car Park is for staff parking only and is not to be used under any circumstance by parents.

Parents, please pass this message onto friends or relatives who may be dropping off or collecting your child/children.

Let’s Van Gogh!

Earlier this term, both room11 and room12 travelled into the city of Perth to explore Van Gogh LIVE, the best place to venture through the world of Van Gogh.  As soon as I entered, I was greeted with a sight like no other, a car painted like the Starry Night.  Strange, but cool to say the least.

Moving on, we saw a recreation of Van Gogh’s room from a painting called... My Room?  Seriously, that painting needs a better name.  After that, we descended upon a recreation of the Starry Night (apparently, the painted car wasn’t enough) the room consisted of many fairy lights, and mirrors on every wall to give off an infinite stars affect, neat!

In the next room, we were astonished by a collection of Van Gogh’s paintings being projected on to every wall, changing every minute, and that was my favourite room!

Finally, we all experienced a recreation of a sunflower painting called... sunflowers?  I’m starting to believe Van Gogh struggled with naming his art.  Anyway, the room had at-least 100 sunflowers, mirrors on every wall, and a single bench in the middle.  Unfortunately, that was the last stop on our journey.  But I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I will never forget that car engulfed by the Starry Night.

Cross Country Champion

Sam O has been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2022 Cross Country Championship.  This team will be competing at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Adelaide from Friday, August 26.

State representation is an honour and often represents a significant stepping stone in the ultimate achievement of senior and national selection.

Congratulations Sam!

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
