Dear Parents and Carers
Why Schools Need VALUES
Every school has its own set of values. A school’s values are the personal characteristics, behaviours and qualities that each school community wants to highlight, emphasize and develop in its students and across the community. Once decided, the values are used to:
1. Make choices about learning, curriculum and resources
2. Set school rules and improve behaviour
3. Talk with potential new families about what our school believes is important, and what the school stands for.
The current Burton school values were developed and decided way back in 1992. There are eight values in this original set: learning, cooperation, respect, teamwork, safety, fun, honesty, friendship.
The world has changed significantly since 1992. So it is time to review the existing set.
Over the last month the Governing Council and school staff have begun reviewing the school’s current set of VALUES.
Governing Council suggest a possible “new” top 5 of respect, inclusion, teamwork, compassion and honesty.
The school staff suggest a possible “new” top 5 of learning, inclusion, teamwork, excellence and respect.
We now want to gather the ideas and suggestions of our parents. Attached to this article is a link. Please use the link to identify your personal top 5. Your information will be collated with the results of every other family, and Governing Council will then come up with a new set of values for Burton primary for 2023 onwards.
Please note that the students will be doing a similar process in the coming weeks. Every student will have the opportunity to have their ideas listened to and included.
