School News

Smartwatch Update

The school has seen an increasing number of Smartwatches this year.

We would like to advise our community that Smartwatches fall under the same category as 'mobile phones'.

We would encourage our community to leave these devices at home. However, we also respect that for some families these remain an important communication tool after hours. We do ask that if you do require your child to wear a smartwatch daily, that these devices follow the same protocols as regular mobile phones.

Our school protocol is that mobile phones and smartwatches be placed in the mobile device box in the admin at the start of the school day. These can be collected from the admin at the end of the school day.

If you require the need to make contact with your child during the school day, we ask that this goes through the front office as we currently do.

Students wearing smartwatches from today, will be asked to add these to the mobile device box in the front office.

Northern Lights Program - Coming Term 2

The school is currently in the process of employing a 10 teacher. This teacher will be involved in establishing our 'Northern Lights' Program.

This program will be shaped around the needs of learners and will look different to a regular mainstream classroom. The program will shape the learning to the specific needs of the learners within the program. Students that participate in this program, will access the program on an individual and needs basis. This might mean full-time daily access, or it could be part-time daily or portions of the week.

This is an exciting opportunity to really cater learning to the needs of each learner. We will inform our community of the milestones of this program. At this point in time, we need to identify and employ the right person for the job. Stay tuned for more information in early term 2.

Easter Hat Parade

Our annual Easter Hat Parade is set for Wednesday 5 April. We are planning on making this the best one yet. Parents are invited to wear their own Easter Hat for the adult section of the parade. The P&C will be serving delicious morning tea items on the day.

Please let the school know, it you require support with making your hat. We will happily send home resources so that you can construct a wonderful hat for the parade.

the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance and our Junior classes will take place in the first annual Easter Egg hunt!!

Reconciliation Action Plan

Goulburn North PS is hoping to complete its Reconciliation Action Plan this year. Part of this journey we would like to involve some members of the school community. If you would be keen to come along this journey and be part of the planning team, please come and see Mr Marshall. We would ideally like some representation from staff, students and the community.

Curriculum and Instruction

The English Syllabus

The new English K-10 syllabus shows the role and connection that understanding texts and creating texts have across all areas of English. The outcomes and content reflect the essential knowledge, understanding and skills that students are expected to learn. Focus areas include, but are not limited to: oral language and communication, vocabulary, reading fluency, reading comprehension, creating written texts, spelling, handwriting, and understanding and responding to literature. Please refer to the infograph on 'Oral language and communication' for ways you can support your child in this focus area.

News From Around The School

2C News

Students in 2C have been taking part in a STEM unit called Sounds and Music. We have been listening to and interacting with different types of music to learn about how sound is produced through vibrations of objects. We are learning that volume, pitch, and types of sounds can be changed based on the actions we use to create them.

So far, we have used recycled plastic bottles, rice, blue sand, buttons, and stickers to create our own shakers which have been used for both our STEM unit and our mathematics lessons on patterns. We copied and then created our own patterns using our own instruments. We have also used decorated, handmade matchboxes and rubber bands to create our own guitars. We used our hand made guitar to create sound in different ways and then discussed how cutting a hole in one side of the matchbox would create a better sound. Our final instrument we are making is our own pop stick harmonica made of pop sticks, paper, and rubber bands.

The students have thoroughly enjoyed making these instruments and creating their own music with them. This has been a very loud but rewarding process and the students are looking forward to taking all their instruments home to show what they have learned.

3/4L News

3/4L have been eagerly awaiting the start of our Acrylic Paint Pouring art unit. Supplies arrived and we finally got the opportunity to practice some different blending techniques. Students chose two colours and used blowing through a straw and also using a paddle pop stick to smudge or swirl the colour together. It was lovely to see the end results. This coming week we will be trialing 3-4 colour combinations and some more techniques. We are very much looking forward to completing our final canvas once we have trialed all our techniques.

5/6F News

This term the students in 5/6F have been working hard on our sizzling starts for writing. What is a Sizzling Start, you ask? A sizzling start is a punchy and exciting opening within a narrative that grabs the readers attention. Sizzling starts are essential as they drop the reader right in the middle of the action and do not allow them to get bored or stop reading. I hope you enjoy reading some of our sizzling starts!

P&C News

P&C is off to a great start. Our next meeting on Monday 13 March (Week 8) will be our annual AGM. All current positions on the P&C will be vacant and we are keen to vote in some amazing people. Have your say by coming along and joining in on the AGM.

Our Fireworks Event is just around the corner and so far we have some amazing donations from the community. This year will no doubt be one of our best events yet. Come along to the next meeting, which will be held thirty minutes prior to the start of the P&C AGM.

The P&C is also keen to support the introduction of a new Sport Shirt in house colours. The current choices are online and ready for you to vot on your favourite style. These will be an amazing addition to our school uniform and will look wonderful at sporting carnivals.
