Mary Immaculate Primary Newsletter Update

Term 1 Week 11: Monday 4th April 2022

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a big term it has been! Unfortunately memorable in that lots of our students and staff have been away, covid related yet again. Some students have had their term significantly interrupted by several covid related incidences at home. Everyone has done their best to continue to make the most of the challenges that they have faced this term as well. Congratulations on all that has been achieved with and for each other!

Over the upcoming break, I pray that our community members are safe and happy. I am sure that we all pray as well for the many people in our global community facing extraordinary hardship. Let us pray for peace in our local and global world!

The teachers have worked to support their students as highly effective learners. This is part of our whole school strategy - to enhance student wellbeing through increased capacity as Assessment Capable Learners. To support this important work for our students, we will be taking use of a course held on May 23rd with Michael McDowell on "Teaching for Transfer". This will therefore be a Staff Development Day.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Principal

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

Planning for a safe and supportive school community

On Friday 18 March 2022, MIPS participated in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The NDA is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.

The theme for the 2022 NDA was Kindness Culture. MIPS demonstrated Kindness Culture by our Year 6 Students sharing  presentations on ways to be an upstander and taking part in creating a patch for the school KIndness Quilt. Year 6 students shared their presentations across the school promoting inclusiveness, respect and community belonging for all of their peers. The activity they planned to share with their peers promoted ways to be kind to one another, what kindness and how they show kindness. The students crafted a patch which will come together to be displayed as a whole school MIPS Kindness Patchwork Quilt.

Planning for a safe and supportive school community requires a whole-school community approach. We are proud to be spreading kindness across our community everyday.

Congratulations Mishka
