TERM 1 WEEK 10 - 29 MARCH 2023

Principal Update

Easter Hat parade and Picnic

Next Thursday 6 April we will hold our Easter Hat Parade and Picnic. The parade will begin at 10:15 am followed by a picnic at 11 am. All families are welcome and we hope to see you there.

Supervision before school

Just a reminder that playground supervision begins at 8:30 am each morning. Students should not be dropped off at school earlier than 8:30 am each day.

Energy Drinks

There have been a few instances of students bringing energy drinks and caffeinated drinks to school. We ask that you not send these to school with your children and appreciate your support in this matter.

Annual School Report and Strategic Improvement Plan

This year we continue to implement our 2021-2024 Strategic Improvement Plan. Due to the disruptions of COVID this plan will continue through to the end of 2025. We have 3 strategic directions:

· Student growth and attainment

· Professional growth culture

· Successful students

Our teaching and learning, professional learning and school planning are all based on these strategic directions. You can read about each strategic direction by clicking on the link below.

Each year we publish an Annual School Report. Our Annual School Report for 2022 is now complete. Our Annual School Report and Strategic Improvement Plan can be viewed on our website at: https://moruya-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/school-planning-and-reporting.html

Staff Development Day Term 2 – Aboriginal Education

Next term staff return on Monday 24 April for a staff development day. The focus of this day is Aboriginal Education. Staff will participate in professional learning to ensure that there is a focused effort on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and to increase knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal histories and cultures.

School Holidays

The school holidays begin next Friday 7 April. Students return to school on Wednesday 26 April. During the school holidays our school will be a part of the Share our Space program. This means you are welcome to enter school grounds and make use of our playground equipment and sports courts. We hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday break.

Sarah Davis

Deputy Principal

As Term 1 draws to a close, I’m reflecting on some of the positive things I can see happening at Moruya Public.

Our student leaders have been doing a sensational job in role modelling leadership.  They are enthusiastic workers who are involved in a range of activities across the school, from assisting pack up of Breakfast Club and running assemblies, through to ensuring messages are changed weekly on the Brag Board.

Our Student Voice group (SRC), were involved in Harmony Day activities and we had a mufti day to celebrate.  In Term 2, the Student Voice group are keen to get some volleyball competitions up and running and also plan to hold a competition to rename our playground areas.

I am proud of the positive actions happening in Aboriginal education.  In addition to the staff professional learning focused on Aboriginal education, Term 2 will see a mentoring program underway for our Year 3 and 4 Aboriginal boys.  We are very fortunate to have some of the Moruya High School Clontarf students and staff volunteers to co-ordinate these activities. Our Relieving Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO) Kylie Parsons instigated this mentoring program who we give a big shout out to. Our next AEC meeting will be Wednesday 5 April at 3.15 pm in the staffroom, all are welcome.

The staff also worked tirelessly this term to ensure Moruya Public students were involved in a range of sporting activities.  The last week of term will be no exception with Softball, Netball and the Cross Country all scheduled.  What a great way to finish Term 1.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Easter Hat Parade on April 6.
