Welcome to week 6 of Term 2, time really does fly!
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well.
As you are aware, the past two weeks have seen students return to full time, face to face education. I can imagine just how much of a change in routine this must be after learning from home for some time, but I do both appreciate and applaud the effort being made both by parents and students to get back into these routines.
With this in mind, the procedure for pick up for Kindergarten, year one and year 2, will remain the same until further notice. Just to reiterate, these students will be dismissed at 2:45 pm. Kindergarten from the top gate near the SaCC Centre and year one and year two from the front gate, adjacent to the front office entry. Please continue to adhere to social distancing measures, and keep an eye on children and younger siblings, there is a lot of traffic movement at this time. Once you have your child, please leave promptly. All other children will leave school as normal at 3:00 pm including siblings, students who require buses and those that attend after school care with Wesley Mission.
For those students that travel to and from school via bus, please remember that whilst in uniform, you are directly representing Wyong Public. Please remember to display your best behaviour at all times.
On a positive note, Mrs Whitehouse has received many amazing entries from the learning from home competition. The photography, public speaking and poetry entries have been outstanding, and winners will be announced shortly.
Also we have taken the time to acknowledge Reconciliation Week at Wyong Public. National Reconciliation Week runs from the 27th May till the 3rd June annually. This year’s theme, which right now given the current circumstances, resounds even more so of ‘In this Together’ reinforces the need to act collectively. It recognises the need to build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and culture.
Due to the circumstance that we have been faced with recently and the restrictions put in place, we have had to postpone some school events. We know just how much students look forward to these events throughout the school year and we have done our best to reschedule where possible. So now the Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday the 7th August, 2020 (Term 3, Week 3). The Planetarium incursion will now visit the school over two days, on the 3rd and 4th of September (Term 3, Week 7). The stage 3, Broken Bay camp is still proceeding, unless we are advised otherwise. With these changes scheduled, please keep in mind that unfortunately some modifications may still be needed. Any changes to times, dates or details will be updated immediately throughout our communication platforms.
In regards to in school gatherings like assemblies, they are still cancelled for now, with direction from the Department of Education stating that assemblies are only to be held if there is no other way to communicate essential information, and if so they are to be short, sharp and preferably outside. Any important information will be conveyed using other methods first.
Also, please note teachers are beginning to prepare semester one reports. The format of these reports has been streamlined (in line with the department of education guidelines) for term one and term two with no A- E reporting. Our reports will look very similar to previous years without these grades. All reports will be sent home early term 3.
Lastly, as per previous communication, there are currently some work taking place in and around the school grounds, with the painting of the hall and the resurfacing of the carpark/installation of an electronic gate at the front entry being carried out over the next few weeks. This will require a little change in some routines, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Specific start dates for the carpark etc. have not been set yet, but will be communicated when confirmed.
