It’s great to return to what promises to be another tremendous year at Wyong PS.
After a Summer Holidays that sadly brought tragedy, hardship, grief and loss to so many across our land, the Australian spirit lives on. The response of communities, sportspeople, other celebrities across the country and the world, along with the everyday Australian, to the bushfire disaster that has impacted so many people, communities and native animal population, exemplifies what it means to value our identity.
At Wyong Public School, our identity as a welcoming and caring school and community is something that we value, and our thoughts go out to those who have been affected, either directly or indirectly, by the tragedy that was, and continues to be, the devastation that these terrible fires have caused. The department of education has mentioned the chance for all schools to provide support to those schools / areas affected by this national tragedy (not forgetting the drought) and I have indicated that we as a school would be willing to do so. Once more information comes to hand I will communicate this to the broader community.
On a brighter note, to our existing families, welcome back to Wyong Public School for another year of your children’s education, which we hope will be one that is meaningful and fulfilling for all involved; and I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the new families who are new to the area, or who are joining (or re-joining) us for 2020 and beyond–especially our new Kindergarten and Opportunity and Support class students. Welcome! We are sure that you will enjoy your time at our tremendous school and we look forward to watching you become respectful, responsible and excellent learners as the years pass during your time here.
We have increased to 22 classes (a Multi categorical class) and one extra K-2 class. We do not perceive any class changes in terms of grades but our year 5 numbers are quite high with over 60 children in 2 mainstream classes (5B and 5S) and we are monitoring new enrolments to ensure these numbers are appropriate. There may need to be some reshuffling of these two classes with year 6 if the numbers continue to climb.
We also welcome some new staff to the school, with Miss Tancred on Kindergarten; Miss Preston on year 1; Miss Marsh sharing 3K with Mr Kember, Mrs Turner as our fulltime learning and support teacher and Mrs Vashishta teaching release classes.
### We also wish Mrs Lane and her family all the very best for her upcoming birth in the next few weeks. We will wave goodbye to her after this week and maybe see her back down the track.....
Breakfast Club
There are some changes this year including a new location for our Breakfast Club which will now be served out of our canteen area every morning. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers for giving up their time to feed our students.
This year we continue to work with the Coles Second Bite program that supplies surplus food to the school to be used at the Breakfast Club and also to provide food for students who for whatever reason do not have food at school. Please note parents/carers will always be contacted first before food is given to students.
School Hours
School begins at 9.00am and ends at 3.00pm. Students are not directly supervised prior to 8.30am as there is no staff supervision until this time and the safety/conduct of students remains the same and this means all students are to be seated canteen area and no ball games at this time.
### Parents that require before or after school care for their children can use the onsite service provided by Wesley Mission. We would like to welcome the staff at Wesley OOSH who are now set up to care for students before and after school and throughout school holidays in our SaCC centre. You will find their contact details below.
All visitors and guests to the school (including parents/carers) are required to sign in at the office before entering the school premises.
We have many exciting events coming up throughout Term 1 including School Photo Day and our annual Swimming Carnival.
### ALL school notes that require permission and money have a due date, and this is to ensure that we as a school have booked buses or events as many excursions have fixed numbers and this impacts on costs.
If you are having an issue in terms of paying on time for an excursion / event we ask that you firstly advise your child’s teacher, and send in permission notes completed. If students do not have permission notes signed they are not allowed to attend excursions and in some circumstances we have gained verbal permission in emergencies but notes signed are the preferred method.
Please keep up to date with events using our various communication platforms including these eNewsletters, on our website, our Facebook page and though Class Dojo and the Skoolbag app. A note has gone home explaining how these different platforms are used to keep our community informed.
Canteen Tenders
Our canteen is going to tender and this process concludes today. This is a normal process and we will advise the community of the outcome when this is completed.
