Christ the King North Rocks Newsletter

Term 2 Week 10: Wednesday 29th June, 2022.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

The Gospel of this Sunday’s Mass focuses on mission and what it means for us all to be witnesses to the role of the “church” in our Christian community. Since the Church exists in each local parish community, we need to reflect together on the way in which the Church understands her mission, so that we, as a parish community, might become more sensitive to the call of the risen Christ to us to continue his mission in the world both on a local and broader level. Church teachings state clearly that being missionary belongs to the essence of being Church: The Church on earth is by its very nature missionary, since, according to the plan of the Father, it has evolved through the mission of the Son and of the Holy Spirit that was promised to us on the first Pentecost. Let us whether it be within our families, our school and parish communities or the wider society we live in, be the evangelists that continue to live that “mission” through the Word of God that has been handed down to us through the and ages and will continue to so for future generations to come.

Congratulations to our CTK parish children who made their First Holy Communion the weekend before last. Receiving our Lord through the Blessed Eucharist continues their further initiation into our Christian Catholic family. Thank you to Mrs Wynne, Fr Ian and the first communicant’s parent who supported their preparation over recent weeks.

Many thanks to our CTK families who supported the St Vincent De Paul winter appliance hamper appeal over the last few weeks. Your generosity to and response to the appeal has been most appreciative.

As the term draws to a closure, I would like to thank you all for your support of the school community, our staff, and the education of our students over the last ten weeks. It has been a busy and productive term with many highlights and achievements recorded over the last three months. My thanks and appreciation to the staff for their professionalism and dedication to their teaching roles throughout the term. May the holidays be a relaxing period for all members of our community and a time to renew one’s energy as we embark on the second semester later this month.

Over the past two-weeks teachers have conducted parent teacher interviews. Thank you to our parents who took the time to avail themselves to take the opportunity to speak with their children’s teachers. If you require an additional interview or were unable to attend an interview, please make an appointment to see your child’s teachers to organise an interview early next term. Thank you to all the teachers who prepared the student reports over recent weeks and for giving of their time to conduct the interviews.

The onsite school uniform shop has now ceased trading and will resume at the beginning of next term on the new online platform. School Locker will be our new online supplier that you will deal with directly for the purchase of all your children’s uniform requirements. Details regarding procedures for ordering online will be emailed to parents in the next week or two. The second-hand clothing pool will still operate on site with details regarding its operation available early next term.

Our new online canteen service will commence on the first day of next term. Total Canteen Solutions will be providing lunch orders online for our students Monday to Friday. Together with the Flexischools Ordering App you will be able to order your children’s lunches online five days a week on either your mobile phone or other home devices. Details regarding the registering of your own personal account with Flexischools, ordering procedures and payment options as well as the lunch menu have been emailed and skoolbagged to you today for your convenience.  Online ordering will commence on the first day of term 3 Monday 18th July.

Best wishes to Miss Brady and Mr Debrincat as they await the birth of their baby in the coming week. Sarah will be taking maternity leave for the remainder of the year. Aaron will be taking paternity leave for a few weeks following the birth of their baby. We wish all Gods blessings upon both Aaron and Sarah as they welcome their newborn into the world. We also welcome Mr Chris Gierek, who will join our CTK staff. He will be teaching Year 2 for the rest of the year with Mr Kroon. We trust Chris will enjoy his time with us at CTK.

Congratulations to Nick Klamer who was selected in the MacKillop Primary Rugby Union team last week.

Enjoy the holidays and that extra time with your families.

Biggest Morning Tea

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Biggest Morning Tea at CTK. The students really enjoyed being a part of the morning tea with the donut or cupcake they were given. We raised nearly $1500. All of this money will go to cancer research and support. Once again, thank you:)

Premier's Reading Challenge

The PRC closes Friday 19th August Week 5. There is still plenty of time to complete the challenge. Why not visit your local library as a day out in the holidays where your children can borrow up to ten books at a time. Curling up on the lounge with a good book over the winter break is always a wonderful thing to do. Log in details to the website will be handed out early next term.

Enjoy your reading!

The office of the eSafety Commissioner web page is a fantastic resource for both parents and children. Parents can look at the latest research and gain insights into how to keep your children safe online. There are also great games and videos for children to use to help them learn how to stay safe online.

I encourage you to take a look at this great, current and reliable resource.

School Subscriptions

Did you know that all students have a subscription to Reading Eggs, Mathseeds or Mathletics? Why not encourage your children to play on these websites over the holidays? Primary students also have access to Britannica online, a fascinating database of interesting facts and challenging quizzes. Ask them to show you this holiday.

All databases along with our eBook platform can be accessed from the CTK library page.

Ahoy CTK Pirates!

Pirate Day has set sail for 2022 and amazingly, over $150,000 was raised for research into Children's brain cancer this year. Our school raised an incredible amount of $5,180 - making us the leading fundraiser out of 979 workplace/educational/community organisations.

The overwhelming response from our community has truly made a difference to the lives of so many children and their families and I can't thank you all enough.

Our response has meant a lot to the Tsanadis family and they are very thankful for the support and prayers our community has offered. Little Demi has finished up radiation and will now focus on continuing to make memories with her family.

'The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.'

Parish News

Sacrament of Confirmation

In the parish of Christ the King, the sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred on Wednesday, 21st September, 2022 commencing at 7.30pm.  In accord with Parramatta Diocesan policy we will conduct a parish-based, family centred, school supported method of preparation for the children to receive this sacrament.

A pre-requisite of children being confirmed is that they have already received First Holy Communion.  Children who have been baptised in Eastern Rite (Uniate Churches, e.g. Maronite, Melchite, Ukranian, Chaldean etc.) may have already been confirmed at Baptism and do not need to participate in this programme if this is the case.

Children in grade Five and above are eligible to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.

The program for preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation will commence with an information meeting for parents/guardians on Wednesday, 27th July commencing at 7.30pm in Christ the King Church, where the program will be explained and any questions answered.

This is a significant step in your child’s journey of faith.  It is vital that parents/guardians attend this meeting.

Christ the King Parish Masses

COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted and Masses have recommenced at Christ the King Parish.

Daily Masses have commenced each Wednesday at 9am, Thursday at 9am, Friday at 9.15am and Saturday at 9am. Please note there will be no Tuesday evening Masses until further notice. Weekend Masses have commenced with the Vigil Mass on Saturday at 5.30pm and continue on Sunday at 8am and 10am.

Masks are no longer mandatory for places of worship. However, masks are still strongly encouraged where you cannot maintain a safe distance from others.
