Principal's Pen

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Term three is off to a flying start with our students engaged in Athletics and continuing to build their teamwork skills through team games ready for the Carnival in Week 8.  The build-up to this event is intense and staff and students are working hard at practising the events.

This week I sat with the P and C team for our termly meeting, while we eventually achieved a chorum by those in attendance the numbers were low.  The executive is reaching out to seek further support from our school community.  Whether it be supporting or taking on a portfolio, or simply to be a part of the wonderful committee that enables many exciting events to occur for our students. If you are new to our school or interested in becoming a member, please email glengarrypandc@gmail.com and find further info via our school website at http://www.glengarry.wa.edu.au/.

On other exciting news, our school has been fortunate enough to gain a Story Dog.  Luna (a Cavoodle) and her owner Kirra will be joining our community in Week 5 on Mondays from 1:00-3:00pm. Luna will be a reading buddy to a select few students in Year 4. Please make them feel welcome. Miss Loxton is the coordinator of this program and will be sharing information regarding this wonderful program below.

Furthermore, Mr Meston will be extending his leave this term until Week 8 Term 3. I will be continuing on in his absence alongside Miss Stephens and Miss Cole.

Around Glengarry

Goodbye Vic

After 12 years of helping our students and family members safely cross Doveridge Drive, Vic is sadly finishing up.  He is moving further north with his wife and is required to relinquish his role as the Traffic Warden at Glengarry Primary School.

We wish Vic all the best with his future travels and would like to thank him for his dedicated service to the School and community.

While we will endeavour to cover the cross walk please be cautious when crossing on Doveridge and cross at the marked cross walk.

State Theatre and Art Gallery Excursion

Last Friday students in Rooms 5 and 6 had a fantastic day out, visiting the State Theatre of WA and the Art Gallery of WA. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Barking Gecko Theatre's adaptation of Shaun Tan's much-loved book, Cicada. At the Art Gallery, we were grateful for the knowledgeable volunteer tour guides who shared so much interesting information about the artworks. Students were fascinated by the exhibits, and many left excited to visit again with their families to spend more time exploring. Thank you to the amazing parent volunteers who attended!

Story Dogs

After many years of interest we are excited to be able to finally welcome our school's first Story Dog, a Cavoodle named Luna.  Through the Story Dogs charity, Luna and her owner Kira will be volunteering at our school on Monday afternoons from Week 5 to support a select number of students in Year 4 with reading.  Please make them feel welcome.

Djeran Procedures

Students in Djeran block are having fun learning to write procedures. Last week, as part of this unit, students in Rooms 7 and 8 made chocolate fudge sauce and students in Rooms 5 and 6 made pancakes!

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
