Wingham Public School Bulletin

Term 3 Week 2

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome back to Term 3. I was glad to see all our students, staff and volunteers back to school safe and sound. After such a busy Term 2, I know many of the students and staff enjoyed the holiday break. We have a few new enrolments this term so we welcome those new students and their parents to the Wingham Public School family.

Due to the increased cases of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses within the community, the Department of Education has implemented a ‘4 week blitz’ and we are dialling up our COVID- smart layered measures. During the department’s current ‘4 week blitz’ indoor events such as formal assemblies have been postponed or suspended until later in the term or until Term 4. Our Education Week activities have been paired back and will include a static display in the hall and some outdoor performances from some of our students. We will continue to implement our layered Covid smart measures including

·         Staying home and getting tested if unwell, and only attending school when symptom free

·         Encouraging mask wearing for all students and staff

·         Rapid antigen testing for symptomatic students and staff and household contacts attending school

·         Maximising natural ventilation

·         Boosted cleaning during the day, with particular attention given to high touch surfaces.

We will be receiving another round of RAT’s early this term and we will provide these to families as soon as we receive them. Each student will receive a multipack of 5 tests. These RAT’s can be used as required for symptomatic testing, such as if your child is displaying even mild symptoms. Students identified as household contacts remain able to attend school providing, they are symptom free, notify the school and return a negative COVID-19 test result daily for 5 consecutive school days.

PEER LEADERS TRAINING

Last Thursday and Friday, Stage 3 students participated in Peer Leaders’ Training. They worked through a range of practical activities, took part in discussions, and completed activities in their Peer Leader’s Learning Guide. This training is part of the school’s comprehensive plan and commitment to create a safe and inclusive school. The two days provided students with the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills within a supportive environment.
