Forensics and Microbiology at UTS

On Thursday 1st August 2019, our Big Picture science savvy boys participated in two Science workshops, including Forensics and Microbiology at UTS.

The forensics practical introduced students to an enactment of a crime scene. Specialists in forensics and CSI took the students on a science journey, discovering how evidence is gathered and researched to uncover the truth.

Our boys put on science lab robes and safety goggles and off they went investigating a crime using fingerprints to find the suspect.

The second session was Microbiology, students participated in two case studies. Case study one, testing for diabetes using a Urine-like fluid and the microorganism chart to determine a positive or negative.

The second case study was an experiment using the Gram Stain method to test for salmonella. Students used iodine, alcohol and safranin and put their discoveries under the microscope. They were ecstatic to see live and moving organisms. Yes, the poor man was diagnosed with salmonella L

Both the Microbiology and CSI Science experience allowed students to make a connection with science and to discover where science can take them.

College Physics- Depth Study

The College Physics class has been busy working on their depth study. Students have been learning the theory behind electricity and magnetism, including: charge interactions, Lorentz force, magnetic flux, Faraday’s law and Lenz’s Law. They are putting this into practice by undertaking the task of designing and building a working model of a Direct Current (DC) Motor. Many great motors have been designed and students are underway with building and testing their motors.

Year 7 x Khrome Urban Wear, Liverpool

Mr Chehade has created an awesome relationship with Khrome Urban Wear in Liverpool Westfield. Khrome has given us a generous discount to show our boys how to make custom tshirt prints.  The owner Thanh Long Nguyen invited some year 7 students into his store to run multiple workshops, teaching them how to design and print sublimated jerseys. His support is appreciated!

We recommend checking Khrome out! Khrome Urban Wear Instagram
