Eastlakes Edition

Term 3 Week 5

Acknowledgement to Country

On behalf of the students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, we would like to pay our respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful andresponsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

National Science Week

This week was National Science Week and students K-6 participated in fun science experiments learning about the magic of science! Students learned about forces, energy, solids, liquids, gases, plants absorbing water through roots by using everyday items to conduct their experiments. Enjoy the photos below.

The Imagineer Performance

Thanks to Ms Roth for organising this wonderful incursion for students K-6. It was the perfect way to start National Science Week and lead into Book Week next week as the book is about imagination, curiosity and being inquisitive. Both students and teachers enjoyed this special performance.

Zone Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all students who participated in events at the Zone Athletics Carnival at Hensley Field this Wednesday. A special congratulations to Monon in 6-5S who was outstanding on the day making the school and his parents proud of such excellent results. Thank you to Mr Spencer, Miss Daisley and Miss Maher for the organisation and support to ensure that Eastlakes PS is represented at zone events.

Police Playground Visit

We had a special visit from the local police to our playground this Thursday. The police constables talked with students and answered all their questions during recess time. Last week the police did a talk about cyber safety with Stage 2 and Stage 3. They will be visiting us again in the near future.

COVID-19 Update

The wellbeing of our staff and students, and our students’ education remains paramount. We will continue to implement our layered COVID-smart measures this term, which are aligned to the NSW Government’s general community settings, including:

  • staying home and getting tested if unwell, and only attending school when symptom free

  • encouraging mask-wearing for all staff and students

  • rapid antigen testing for symptomatic students and staff, and household contacts attending school to learn and work

  •  encouraging COVID-19 vaccinations for students, staff and their families, including a booster shot (when eligible)

  • encouraging students, staff and their families to get a flu vaccination

  • good hygiene practices

  • maximising natural ventilation

  • boosted cleaning during the day, with particular attention given to high touch surface areas

  • responding to local COVID-19 conditions when necessary, by working with the department’s Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team.
