Monday 28 October 2019 Week 3 Term 4

From the Principal

Mr Murat Dizdar visit Eleebana PS

Last week we were both honoured and delighted to have Mr Murat Dizdar, Deputy Secretary of the NSW Department of Education visit our school. Accompanied by  Mr Tim McCallum, Executive Director and Ms Louise Gallagher, Director; Mr Dizdar met with staff, toured our school grounds and visited with a few classes.

Our special guests were impressed, making special comment on the positive and welcoming feel of the school, the great work we are doing in STEM and our classroom focus on ensuring growth for every child.

It was fabulous to host such distinguished senior leaders, and we were very proud to share the high quality education taking place at Eleebana PS.

Special Visitors

Netball Knockout

Last Monday our State Netball Knockout team competed in the Regional Finals round against Orange Public School. We were lucky enough to host the match and our team were supported by a very enthusiastic crowd. It was an exciting and close game, but unfortunately not one that went our way on the day.

Congratulations to all our players who demonstrated outstanding skills, determination and resilience. Congratulations and thanks to Ms Croft and Ms Wingrove for their work with the netball teams all year. Thanks too to all our netball parents and families for their support.

Bandfest

Last week our Bands competed in Bandfest at the Performing Arts Centre in Warners Bay. This annual competition involves lots of local schools with high quality adjudicators.

Our bands were very successful in this event, our Senior and Jazz Bands won highly commended in their sections while our Training Band won ‘Best Novice Band (larger)’.

My congratulations and admiration go to all our young musicians, whose talent and hours of practice means that I am continually amazed at their growth every time I hear them play. Congratulations and thank you to Ms Wallace, Ms Phillipa and Ms Wingrove for their outstanding work in developing and supporting our Band program. Finally to all our Band parents, we could not do it without you!

Kinder Orientation

Last week we welcomed our new Kindergarten for 2020 to their first orientation visit. They had a wonderful time meeting our teachers, making new friends and doing fun activities in the classroom.

We currently have enrolments for 3 very full kindergarten classes. If you know any local families who have yet to enrol their child, please encourage them to do so before our next orientation on November 6th.

World Teachers Day

Friday 25th October we celebrated World Teachers Day here at Eleebana PS and took a moment to celebrate how lucky we are to work in such an amazing school with such dedicated, supportive and high quality teachers.I am sure you will join me in thanking our wonderful staff for all the great work they do.

Swimming School

The School Swimming School begins this week for many of our students. Our Swimming Scheme is an important extracurricular opportunity for our families, offering an intensive two week swimming program for students in the early years.

Spring Fair

The wait is nearly over - our P&C Spring Fair is on this Friday!

Our students are very excited, looking forward to what promises to be an amazing afternoon.

As we count down the days, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic P&C on behalf of our school and our community. Eleebana PS P&C works tirelessly to support our school and our students. Among their many projects this year, our P&C have already provided 40 iPads for class use, replaced Interactive whiteboards, subsidised our many of student sporting representatives, provided funds for extracurricular excursions, bought thousands of dollars worth of classroom resources, paid for half of our top playground improvements and provided $18,000 to upgrade and improve literacy resources, including decodable texts and home readers. The Spring Fair is the major fundraiser for the year and will provide the money for our P&C to continue to help provide high quality resources and experiences for your children. Please help where you can, your support is most sincerely appreciated.

If you are able to volunteer to some time on the day, please follow the P&C link to the sign up page.
