Jamberoo Public School Newsletter

Term 3 Week 4 Newsletter 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

Sorry for the late publication of this newsletter, our little school has been so very busy in the past few weeks. Today our school is hosting the Regional debating team trials and Mrs Behl-Shanks is working on finding the best representatives from our region.

We are very exciting to be fast approaching our book week. Please note that book week is usually in week 6, but due to our heavy involvement in Southern Stars we have pushed ours back a week. I hope you are all busy getting your costumes together. We are looking forward to having all our parents and grandparents attend on Friday 2nd September as last year we had to have a virtual parade.

We are also looking forward to welcoming Mr Speirs back at Jamberoo as the full-time Principal in Term 4.  I have been speaking to Mr Speirs and he is very excited to be coming back to his school and meeting all of our new families. I will be handing over to Mr Speirs in the next few weeks as we near the end of the term.

Please keep an eye out for great examples of leadership among our students.  Last week I heard a story of Noah from Year 5 helping a farmer with some rouge cows on the road. Mrs Kirby and Mr Ross are working with our senior students to prepare them for their leadership journey at Jamberoo. It is great to be able to reflect on some of these really positive behaviours here.

Please note that this Friday's assembly will have a special performance from our Tournament of Minds children.

See you there,

Regards,

Ms Greta Lewis

Kindergarten's Frogs

Spotlight on K Wombarra

Last week, I got to spend some time with our clever kindergarten students. We did a mini unit on frogs. They have been working on following instructions and creating masterpieces. These are some of our frogs. We are still to discover if some frogs can breath out of their bottoms, please let us know if they can.

Spotlight on Cooinda

Week 4 was education week, and as part of our school's way of showcasing education, we have put a spotlight on 5/6 Cooinda.

5/6 Cooinda is our senior class and is taught by Mrs Kirby and Mr Ross.

During the week the students have opportunities to engage with technology and STEAM based learning. In some of the following pictures you are able to see some of the stage 3 students creating shelters in a STEAM project in history. The year 5 students from Walabi join this group for many of these lessons. Thanks Mrs Kirby for encouraging creativity in this classroom.

Currently our senior students are learning what it is to be a good leader. They are have sessions on how to be assertive without being aggressive and what types of behaviours a leader needs to demonstrate. Mr Ross has developed a program that is helping our upcoming leaders develop these skills. It also fits in beautifully with the PDHPE syllabus. Students are working with junior students to explore how to make better connections and communicate in a more appropriate manner. This program will continue for the rest of the term and involve a playground element. Thank you Mr Ross for this initiative.

Congratulations senior students.
