Principal's Report

Thanks to all and Enjoy the Break

Well, the final newsletter for the year is here and we are all wondering just where the year has gone. On a personal note, I would like to thank each and every one of our staff, students, and community for the way in which you have gone about things during a complicated 2022, which, fortunately, we seem to be “coming out the other side of”. Ongoing support from our staff, P&C and community has meant that my transition to relieving Principal at Wyong Public School has been both smooth and very rewarding. Despite some tricky moments, this year we have been able to fit in many wide and varied opportunities for our staff, students and their families, with a return of Easter Hat Parades, Book Week Parades, Fathers and Mothers Day stalls, and many opportunities for our kids in sport, leadership, STEM and Technology Aboriginal Education and the Creative and Performing Arts. I’m sure that, for many of our staff, it seems like only yesterday that Wyong PS was welcoming our departing Year 6 students into the school in 2016 to begin what was expected to be a very exciting period of education at Wyong Public School for them. Next Thursday night, these amazing kids will have, I’m sure, a fantastic time at the annual Year 6 Farewell, where they will have the pleasure of a meal with their friends and teachers, and some dancing, games, and silly photos. We trust that they will all have a wonderful time, and we will sincerely miss them as they leave our gates for the last time as Wyong Public School students. All of our teachers have had the pleasure of watching these students grow into the fantastic individuals they are today, all the way from kindergarten; and also, some of them who have not been with us as long but have been very welcome additions to our school. We would like to wish them all the best as they enter high school, and we trust that Wyong Public School will always hold a special place in their heart for a long time.

In terms of moving on, I would like to absolutely send our heartfelt thanks to the teachers who are farewelling our school at the end of this year. All have been highly valued members of our staff, and each of them has brought something extremely valuable to our school community; and each of these fantastic practitioners have had a highly positive impact on our students. For those of you unaware, Mr M will continue to undertake a principal role in the UK and will not be returning until at least Term 3, which means that I will continue to relieve as principal in his absence. I look forward to continuing in this role and building upon the work we have begun in 2022.

In conclusion, I wish to extend my thanks to our extremely dedicated staff and to you, our community, for a challenging, but extremely rewarding, 2022. We also cannot thank our P&C volunteers enough for their efforts in supporting our school and we are very appreciative of the commitment they have made to re-establish several great initiatives that we are all very thankful for. Our P &C’s success in bringing back some great fundraising ideas, has been great to see. Well done, P&C!!! To you, our families, thank you for your ongoing dedication to getting your child(ren) to school each day, ready to learn and prepared to work with our teachers and other staff to be the best version of themselves they can possibly be. Have a safe and happy Christmas, make the most of your time with your families, and we look forward to welcoming you all back in 2023.

Presentation Day

Tuesday 13th December will see our school come together for our 2022 Presentation Assembly, which, this year, will be conducted as two separate presentation assemblies; K-2 and 3-6. We look forward to welcoming you all into our school to share this special occasion, where we will have the pleasure of watching a variety of performances, along with celebrating the achievements of our students. On this day, we will also announce our newly elected Captains and Leaders for 2023, who will, I’m sure, will do an outstanding job as they undertake these prestigious roles. Please be advised that, if you wish, you will be permitted to take your child/ren home at the conclusion of the 3-6 presentation assembly, providing they are signed out by their classroom teacher. On this day, students will also receive their final reports for 2023.

Orange Day Fundraiser

On Thursday 24th November, the student leaders along with Mrs Arnot and Mrs Turner, headed out to 'Pick your own Oranges' at Dooralong. We had a great time selecting and picking approximately 21kgs of oranges, to cut and prepare ready for 'Orange Day'. We would like to thank the owners of 'Pick your Own Oranges' Dooralong for allowing us to visit on a day that they would normally be closed and for donating the majority of oranges to our fundraiser. If you have yet to travel out to experience the Orange Farm, it is definitely a fun time for all and not to mention how delicious the oranges taste straight from the trees! On Monday 28th November, our Student Leadership Team held their Orange Day Fundraiser. Students were asked to participate by wearing orange mufti or accessory to school for the day. Students were able to purchase frozen orange quarters at lunch and recess for 20c per orange quarter. As a result, they were able to raise $37.50 to go towards purchasing some orange trees to plant within the school grounds. The Student Leadership Team hope the planting of these trees will flourish providing juicy oranges to students at our school.
