Principal`s Report

Welcome back to the final term of the year. I thank the entire staff for their continual strong work ethic, and while most businesses etc. tend to wind down for the year, it seems at school we wind up until the end of the term. I would like to thank Mr Kember for relieving as principal during my time on leave; and to Mrs Stretton, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Bacon and Mrs Stevens for all assisting over this time.

Reading the overall NAPLAN results was very pleasing, and I congratulate all of the children and staff for this. We showed some strong improvements in Reading, and maths, and these results will be outlined in our Annual School Report, which will be made public early in term, 1, 2019.

There are many items on this term, and I ask that you keep up to date via the website, school app and of course this newsletter for various items and dates.

Student Behaviour

At Wyong Public School, our Positive Behaviour for learning policy in relation to all things student welfare guides us.  Our rules are Show Respect, Show Responsibility and Show Excellence. These rules are to be displayed at all times, whether in school or out of school.

For example, last weekend Miss Scotton and Mrs Pass took 15 wonderful Key Choir students to rehearsals and performances at Town Hall (Sydney) on Saturday and Sunday. These children displayed excellence at all times along with respect and responsibility. I not only thank them for this and their wonderful performances but also the teachers who did this in their time, without fuss and with a lot of duty of care. I thank them and the students for this, and particularly for their effort outside of school time. This is one fine example of a superb achievement all-round – and we thank the parents for their support.

On the other side of the coin, there have been a few students this term who have not displayed such positive behaviour, and they have been dealt with accordingly. I remind all students of our school rules, and while we have the reward days that come along with this – stage rewards and 100% rewards, there are consequences for negative behaviours. These are clearly set out in our Student Welfare policy and we appreciate the support of our families with this.

 Classes 2019

I ask parents to send anything pertinent to class formations for 2019. This could be a change of address, home details, medical updates or request for their child educationally for next year.

Please send all request to the school email wyong-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au attention to Mr Miladinovic.

Thank you

Todd Miladinovic

Stage 3 Camp- The Great Aussie Bush Camp

We left for camp on Wednesday 9.15 am and traveled by bus up to Tea Gardens. We were on the bus for about 2 hours and then we were greeted by a funny guy named Dan when we got there.

The fun activities we participated in  were the lost island mud world, giant swing, high ropes, archery, rock climbing, anti-bullying, rainforest walk and an exhausting sand dune run. Our night activities were dance off and commando, where the teachers hid in the bushes in the dark and surprised us with torches as we were trying to rescue some hostages.

We ate plenty of delicious food including, burgers, BBQ`s, hotdogs, sweet and sour chicken and ice cream.

Overall we had an excellent camp, even with the rain! That just made it more fun.

Kindergarten Report

What a wonderful time we have been having up in our Kindergarten rooms this past week. Leap into Learning started last Wednesday with many happy, smiling new Kinders. Thanks to the many parents who were involved in our first parent information session. They were kept busy completing enrolment forms and learning about the workings of kindergarten while their children took their first steps into the kinder classrooms. Lots of learning and fun was had by all. Can’t wait for our next session to get to spend more time with them all again. A huge thankyou to Miss Scotton, Mrs Brechney and our amazing support staff for all their work with settling in our new kindergarten children.

We have our big trip to the Australian Wildlife Park on Friday 9th November. Signed permission notes and money are due by Tuesday 6th November. Additional notes have been handed out to students this week. Please ensure you pay by the due date as no money can be accepted after this date. This is awesome excursion and one not to be missed.

With the onset of warmer weather we have a number of lost jumpers in our kinder rooms. Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly labelled on their belongings so we are able to return lost items.

A busy term lies ahead so we will keep you posted.

Itinerant Hearing Visit

Our Stage 1 students are currently learning about sound and this week they were lucky enough to have a talk from Michael Clarkson, Assistant Principal at Central Coast North Itinerant Hearing Service who is based at Wyong Public School. Michael explained to the students what it means to have hearing loss and told them his personal story. We hope the children learnt something new, if not just to appreciate the challenges others face.
If anyone would like more information on the services provided by this organisation please check out their facebook page @CCNIHS or email them on isthearing@gmail.com

OC Orientation

Last Wednesday 5C and 6W had the pleasure of hosting the Opportunity Class Orientation for the new 2019 Opportunity Class students and their parents and carers. The morning involved presenting to parents/carers and future students the variety of opportunities that are available for OC students here at Wyong Public School, student led school tours and morning tea. It was a successful morning and many parents and staff members complemented our current OC students for their outstanding behaviour, maturity and openness to discuss their experiences of being a part of the OC program here at Wyong Public School. Thank you also to the parents/carers of 5C and 6W students who provided a small share plate for morning tea. We look forward to seeing the 2019 OC students and parents/carers next year as a part of our school community.

Planetarium Visit

On Wednesday the 24th and Thursday the 25th, all our students experienced a fantastic incursion with the amazing Starr's Planetarium!
The huge dome only just squeezed into our school hall and the children took it in turns to go on an exciting journey through the universe to explore space and all its wonders, they were projected on the inside of the whole super dome giving us a surround view of our sky.
Gary from Starr’s Planetarium narrated the shows and had a vast knowledge of how our skies worked-we learnt lots of news facts about our Solar System, including the 12 news moons that have been found orbiting Jupiter.
Thank you to Mr Miladinovic for subsidising this incursion so that everyone got to participate. The students loved the experience and were disappointed that it had to come to an end.
Hopefully we can get Starr’s Planetarium back next year for more amazing lessons about the galaxy!

Feedback from Starr’s Planetarium:
Thank you for inviting Starr's Planetarium to present at your school.
I had a great time and we hope the kids enjoyed the presentation. I just wanted to say that it was a pleasure visiting your school. Your students were great. Engaged, respectful and perfectly behaved. They asked some fantastic questions and I hope that I have inspired them to find out more about our universe.
You should be very proud of them.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program

There are limited spaces available in the School Swimming Program to be run from Monday 12th November until Friday 23rd November at Toukley Swimming Centre. Sessions are from 9.30 am – 10.15 am for the two week period and students will need to be at school by 8.30 am each day so that the bus can depart school by 9.00 am.

Students from Year 2 to Year 6 are able to fill the remaining places. If you are interested in attending notes are available on line and at the School Office.

Stage One

On Tuesday our Year 1 and Year 2 students very much enjoyed their excursion to the Art House to see the production of The Gruffalo's Child. The script included the much-loved rhymes and phrases of the book and then expanded on that to further develop the characters and storyline. It included physical theatre, music and puppetry to deliver songs, laughs and scary fun for children. Students and teachers alike were thoroughly entertained. Congratulations to all the students for keeping themselves safe and showing consideration and respect to the general community whilst walking to and from  the venue.

Celebration Sing Out

The Wyong Public School Key Choir performed at the Sydney Town Hall this weekend as part of Celebration Sing Out. This concert was significant because it raised money for Music Therapy at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The choir sang in a massed choral choir consisting of over 600 children along with an adult choir and a full symphony orchestra in front of an audience of 2000. Wow! Congratulations to all the students involved, you sounded incredible, looked awesome and represented our school with pride. Thank you to all the staff who gave up their weekend for this incredible experience.

iCentre

Readers, beware, you’re in for a scare!

Our Halloween themed books have been a great incentive to get some of our students reading books.

Robotics

Our robotics teams have been working very hard on their Lego builds in the iCentre over the last couple of weeks. Some of the mission builds require up to 60 steps within one single procedure.
