Principal's Message

Semester 1 progress reports

The term continues to progress at a rapid pace. This coming week is Week 9 meaning that there are only two more weeks of Term 2 left to go. In this coming week (most likely Thursday), we will be distributing the students’ Semester 1 academic progress reports. There is a lot of time and energy that teachers invest in preparing and finalising these, we hope that when you receive your child’s report that you find it helpful in getting an update on how they are progressing across each curriculum area. Please keep in mind that in Years 1-6 an overall grade of ‘Sound’ indicates that your child is on-track and working at the appropriate grade level. Of course, another great way to get an update is to book a parent-teacher interview in Week 10 to speak directly with your child’s teacher and ask the questions you may have about specific areas of their development. The teachers and I are looking forward to welcoming you in for parent-teacher interviews. If for any reason you are unable to meet with your child’s teacher in Week 10, please contact them directly to arrange an alternative time and date for an interview.

Payments and financial pressure

I am sure it has not escaped your notice, but as we edge toward the end of the term, there are a number of payments due for various school-based activities including: Star Struck, Stage 1 Hunter Valley Zoo Excursion, Athletics Carnival, Stage 3 Interrelate, St3 Bathurst excursion progress payments and on top of that Canteen Meal deals and the P&C Thompson’s Pie fundraiser. Please know that we are very aware of the financial pressure that some families are feeling, especially with the cost of living rising for a variety of reasons. If at any stage your family is under pressure and unable to pay for a school activity, please do not hesitate to contact me to seek additional time to pay or for financial assistance. We do not want our students to miss out on opportunities that you see as valuable because of money and would like to help where we can. Conversations of this nature are always confidential.

Condolences for Mr Howard (Lambton High)

Our school has a very strong relationship with Lambton High School. We are regularly liaising with the LHS staff and have great support from them, especially regarding the Year 6 transition program. Many of you who have children attending Lambton High would already know the sad news, but we were devastated to learn on Wednesday of the sudden and unexpected passing of a respected colleague, Mr Scott Howard. Mr Howard has been a wonderful supporter of our students and school and has gone to great lengths to strengthen and improve the transition program from the local feeder primary schools to the high school. On behalf of our school, I have sent our condolences to the staff and students of Lambton High and we are thinking of his family and friends as they mourn his loss. He was an asset to Lambton High and valued colleague – he will be dearly missed.

 Have a great week.

David Holland

Students of the Week

Congratulations to the following students who were selected as the Junior and Senior students of the week for their work in Week 8.

Star Struck 2022

A huge congratulations to our Star Struck students  for being a part of Star Struck groups this year.

You should all be very proud of yourselves for your dedication, commitment and amazing performances as well as your outstanding behaviour representing Lambton Public School.

A big thank you to Mrs Lewis and Mrs Metcalfe for helping out during Show Week and a big thank you to the parents and families for your commitment, dedication and support - we couldn’t have done it without you all.

Enjoy looking at our backstage photos and enjoy the memories (I know they will last you a lifetime).

Stage 1 Hunter Valley Zoo Excursion

Our Stage 1 students are excited to head to the Hunter Valley Zoo this Wednesday. Learning is always more interesting when it occurs outside the usual classroom. Buses will depart from school at 9:15am and return at approximately 2:45pm. Please remember that the students will need to pack crunch and sip, recess, lunch and a drink bottle. All students must wear full school uniform with fully enclosed, comfortable shoes and their school hat. It is also advisable to apply some sunscreen before arriving at school.

NAIDOC Week

As it always does, NAIDOC Week falls in the school holidays between 3-10 July. Our school will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in the final week of this term.

We have a number of exciting events planned to occur throughout Week 10 so that all students across our school can celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievements. We will be starting each day with an Acknowledgement of Country or a presentation by some of our Aboriginal students at Assembly.

All students will be involved in creating an artwork in their classroom and through this artwork they will develop their knowledge of Aboriginal culture. The 3 best artworks from each class will be selected and included in our school art exhibition which students will have the opportunity to view on Friday. A winning artwork from each stage will be selected. These students will receive a book prize and their artworks will be displayed in the school office area.

On Friday of Week 10, students also have the wonderful opportunity to continue to learn about Aboriginal culture as they participate in Indigenous Sports.

Finally, students are invited to come to school out of uniform on Friday of Week 10, wearing colours from the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flag

Student Achievement

Tyler Johnson recently participated as part of the Hunter U/11’s Rugby League team at the State Championships held in Parkes.

The Hunter team finished 3rd in the championships which is the best result ever for a team from the Hunter. Their team finished top of Pool B to enter the playoffs but unfortunately were beaten in two close & intense games 12-6 and 14-10. The team played extremely well in icy conditions over 3 consecutive days.  Well done Tyler!!

Children that are household contacts of positive Covid cases

Please remember that if a member of your household tests positive to Covid-19, household contacts are not required to self-isolate for 7 days as they were previously. If your child has no symptoms and tests negative using a RAT in the morning (each day for 5 days) they may attend school. You must still notify us in this instance (a call to the office is sufficient). Additional RAT testing kits are available should families need more, please contact the office and we will send kits home with your child.

Parenting Ideas

This week's articles discusses how the loss of traditional school routines  through recent periods of lockdown and remote learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic can contribute to a child's sense of belonging.

Studies have shown a positive sense of belonging can increase self-confidence and well-being and reduce levels of anxiety. Among the many variables found to help build a student's sense of belonging are  positive relationships with  teachers, parents  and their peers.

We hope you enjoy this week's article.
