Lithgow Public School Newsletter

Term 3 Week 4

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Last week schools across NSW celebrated Education Week. The focus for Education week this year was ‘Learning Together’. In celebrating Education week the following 3 themes were highlighted throughout the week as we celebrated Public Education at Lithgow Public School.

Schools are the cornerstone of communities

Parents and carers are our partners in learning. Schools and families benefit from strong, respectful relationships where responsibility for student learning is shared.

Change and resilience

Our teachers and students are lifelong learners, collaborating in a positive learning environment to achieve their best. Learning together makes us strong and creates resilient communities.

Connect better and learn together

Our school staff are dedicated professionals who know, value and care for all students. Technology enables learning together anywhere, any time.

To acknowledge these themes, teachers, support staff and students worked together to create a series of videos. These were shared via social media throughout the week. They demonstrated how Lithgow Public School values its community – particularly through the changes and challenges that 2019 and 2020 brought; how together we have supported each other and adapted to change with resilience and utilised emerging technologies to connect with each other and ensure learning can continue under any conditions.

We hope you enjoyed these videos and sharing in Education Week with us. I would take the opportunity to thank the staff and students for all of the work that they did to make Education Week such a fantastic celebration.

Student pick-up

We continue to appreciate the efforts that our community are making in observing our current arrangements for student pick-up. We have noticed that there are a small number of students still waiting to be picked up after 3.10pm. Please note that the gates on Bridge Street and Short Street are closed at 3.10pm. If students at these gates have not been picked up by this time, they will be taken to bus lines and should be picked up via the Eskbank Street gate. We appreciate your ongoing support during this pandemic.

Parent Teacher interview

We are currently in the process of setting up a new system for booking our Parent Teacher Interviews that will be held over the next 2 weeks. On Thursday, you should have received a note with your individual family access code. You can use this code to setup an account via the SENTRAL Parent Portal where you will be able to access the booking form to book your phone interview with your child’s class teacher. As with many aspects of technology, we understand that there may be challenges associated with this new practice. If you experience any difficulty accessing the SENTRAL dashboard to book your interview please contact the office and we will schedule the meeting the old fashioned way, via direct communication with the classroom teacher by phone.

Have a great fortnight

Kind Regards,

Mark Davies | Principal

Lunch Time Clubs

Our students have recently been enjoying lunch time clubs that have been set up by the teachers.

Dance Club

Our Dancing Shoes Are On!

Students across Stage 2 and Stage 3 have begun their Dance Club! Each Monday during first lunch, girls and boys across the stages spend their time showcasing dance moves with Mr Knight. What talents will the students reveal in the coming weeks?

Drawing Club

We have some very talented up and coming artists at LPS.  It was great to get creative with some of them at our lunch time drawing club which is held each Wednesday during first Break.  Keep your eye out for some more art which we will share with you over the coming weeks.

Glanmire Studying Motion

Glanmire have been learning about the forces in motion and how things move. We have been exploring the forces used in sports during our PE time. This week we looked at jumping and what forces are used to help to complete a jump to achieve optimal height. In doing this, we compared the difference in heights achieved, depending how much spring we gave our jumps by bending our legs to create a push and spring action. We found that by bending our knees a bit we could get an extra 10-20 cm in height but bending our knees fully and touching the ground didn’t give us as much spring because it was a lot more effort to get up.

Gardening Club

Some of our Students love to see our Garden Grow.  They were super surprised today to pick a giant carrot in the LPS vegetable garden.   The gardening club are keen to see some results from their seed planting.

Running to Tokyo

Getting Closer!

Studying Japan

This week the students have enjoyed learning to write their names in Japanese.  The students are still enjoying the challenge of running to Tokyo.

The Students have reached the middle of Queensland.

The students are keen to run again this afternoon to add some kilometres to their goal.

Steel Bin Band

It has been such a delight to begin our Steel Bin Bands this term with some very enthusiastic and creative young people from Stages 1, 2 and 3. Students gather in the hall during first break, on their day, to play some rhythms and express themselves in a new modality. This program helps students to communicate and connect in many ways. The Stage 3 group is already working on a project with a wonderful message. Stay tuned for future performance dates. The creativity is flowing and the ideas are blooming.
