A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families

Last newsletter I wrote about our wholes school focus on Effective Learners and the key domains that showcase and develop the capabilities of an effective learner. This week I highlight another area of impact from the strategy – Learner Agency.

Learner agency involves our students playing a key role in shaping their learning experiences. This involves three domains of practice:

Voice to Agency: Learners have a say and ‘own’ what they learn and how they learn.

Partners in Learning: Learners are active partners  in their learning, collaborating with both teachers and peers to create a dynamic and engaging education experience.

Discernment and Judgement: Learners are able to make considered decisions about the best ways for them to go about their learning and assessment tasks and what new learning may be necessary for them to be successful.

At Hallett Cove East we see Effective Learners and Learner Agency as closely linked and continue to think about teaching practices and learning opportunities that shape the skillset of an effective learner as well as opportunities for students to have a say on their learning journey.

Mid-Year Reports

Teachers have been preparing mid-year student reports. The report will contain a general comment, summary of classroom capabilities and a rating for effort across all learning areas. A-E grades are issued for students in Years 1-6. This year we will email you a copy of your child’s mid-year report on Friday 28th June.  If your email address has recently changed, please ensure you have updated using the ‘Change of Details 2024 form’, located on Audiri to ensure we have the correct email address,

Term 2 Interviews

Interviews will occur in Week 9 of this term, Monday 24th June – Friday 28th June. Next week you will receive an invitation through Audiri to book a time for an interview with your classroom teacher. Teachers will talk through the mid-year report with you during the interview.

COVID-19 Cases

As you’re aware there seems to be an increase in COVID cases in the community which is also impacting school communities. To reduce the risk to others, we ask that if your child tests positive to COVID-19 they stay home until acute symptoms have cleared. This is usually 5 days but may take longer depending on your symptoms. We appreciate the timely reporting of confirmed cases to the school which definitely helps us to reduce the spread.  For further information on COVID-19, please refer to the SA Health website.

Special Achievement

This week I would also like to highlight a special achievement of one of our staff. Mr White has been appointed to coach the Australian Women’s Beach Ultimate Frisbee Team in Japan at an international tournament. This is a really outstanding achievement and great acknowledgement of Mr White’s skills. We wish him and the team well over the next few weeks.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

It is hard to believe we are into winter and over half way through term 2.

Literacy Professional Development for Staff at HCEPS

Over the last couple of weeks our SSO team have had access to professional development around current literacy practices to support their work while working with students to improve their literacy skills.

Emma Belshaw led a PD on instructional routines in the early years classes. She was able to model and guide our SSO team through the different resources and components of an instructional routine. Through this PD staff have been provided with a range of tools to support their work with our student’s literacy skills at HCEPS.

Nicole Gully offered a PD session for our SSO team around current practices and intervention using decodables with the primary students. This informative session helped provide further understanding around the resources and how to best utilise these to strengthen student s literacy knowledge in the primary years.

We are looking forward to our Student Free Day on Tuesday 11th June where as a site we will further unpack our site improvement literacy goal and how we can work towards targeting our teaching to meet students needs in literacy through diving deeper with data.

Carpark and Crossing

As we reach the cold and wet weather, we would like to thank families for taking extra care and caution around the crossing as the business of kiss and drop increases. A friendly reminder that if you are needing to park to walk your child into school to please use parks on the road if our carpark is almost full, as the carpark is for staff to access. Lately we have been short on parks for staff to access. Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick
