From Peachester State School....

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Whether you are a Dad, Daddy, Dad-to-Be, Stepdad, a sensational Mum who is doing it all, someone stepping up as a dad figure - Thank you!

The world needs you and we are grateful for you all!

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The countdown is on to the end of term, and it has been wonderful to see so much quality teaching and learning occurring across classrooms. Much of the effort has been outstanding and all students can feel proud of the leaps and bounds they have made since their return from the beginning of the term. I encourage you all to take a moment to commend them and help them to bring their best to the last few weeks of term.

As a community we need to be reminded to be very COVID aware. I would like to thank parents and carers for their quick follow up and support of students with coughs, sniffles, hay fever and similar illness. Student hygiene continues to be a priority. Additional cleaning is continuing to occur and students are regularly reminded about appropriate hand hygiene.

Student Free Day

A reminder that tomorrow ,Friday (2nd September) is a Pupil Free Day. Students are unable to attend school on this day.  Staff worked an additional day at the beginning of the year, so this means we can enjoy a day of rest also. We look forward to welcoming back students on Monday.

Prep Enrolments for 2023

Thank you to those families who have returned their expressions of interest in or Prep program for 2023. We are looking forward to meeting with our prospective preppers and their families next Wednesday, 7th  September, 9am.

Student Absences

Thank you to all our families that have ensured that they keep students home that might be unwell. Currently our attendance data is below our target of 92%.  Whilst we are a few percentage points off our target, I’m sure that now that winter is behind us, there will be a reduction in the number of students who are absent due to sickness.  If your child is absent from school we would encourage you to contact the school via the following methods:

  • QParents
  • SMS response 0427 949 558
  • Phone the absence line 5439 5166

It is vital that children attend school each day and are only away if they are unwell.

Support Staff

I would like to acknowledge the important contribution of our support staff at Peachester who each day make the school a great place for learning.  Sometimes you may not see the work that they do round the school.  The cleaners, Kylie and Penne, are here at school in the early hours or late in the evening after we have left, cleaning the classrooms.  Steve is always working at keeping the grounds neat and tidy.  Our administration team, Jenny and Julie, are busily answering our phones and organising the day and last but not least, the teacher aides, Wendy, Michelle, Rose, Julie and Katie are always working hard to support our student's learning.

I would like to ask that if you see any of our support staff that you take a moment to thank them for the work they do; they are truly appreciated.

Regional Sport

As I write this, Darby and Jack are finishing there 2nd day at Regional Sport. Congratulations to the boys for reaching this level, we look forward to sharing your successes with everyone.

Poetry and Illustrations

Check out our finished poems and illustrations!!

After working all term on sight words, phonics, rhyming words and poetry, our preps have each written and illustrated a poem. They will be reading these to some other classes over the next week.

Year 1 News

This term we have been investigating measurement with informal units as part of the Mathematics curriculum. We have learnt about length and capacity.

We have measured length with paddle pop sticks, match sticks, unifix cubes and paperclips. We learnt that an accurate measurement of length needed to have no gaps or no overlapping units of measure.

Goldilocks even stopped by our classroom and left a letter asking us to help her measure how much oats she would need for the bear’s bowls.

The Year 1 students took great delight practising their capacity measuring with scoops of oats. We learnt that when filling the scoop, it had to be ‘just right’ – not too empty or not too full that it was overflowing.

Below are some photos of us hard at work.

Year 2/3 News

Narrative work

In 2/3 we have been working extremely hard on creating our narratives in English. We have planned, drafted, edited and published our stories about facing a fear. We are now working on finishing off our amazing illustrations and enjoying sharing our stories with each other!

Year 3/4 News

Sensational, Reliable 3/4's

Hi Mr Laurence,

We know that you have been sick this week and have been missing us all. We wanted you to know that we have held it all together for you. We have completed our HASS assessment - only Part A, don't get too crazy. We have continued learning our English, our Maths and our Science. Our teachers this week, Ms Baker, Mrs Fillery, Miss Amanda and Mrs Jennings have tried to live up to your expectations too.

Today we helped teach the Prep students some ball games, ready for the ball games carnival next week. We hope that after an extra long weekend, you are ready to come back to us so you can see our 'Deadly Ball Games Skills'.

Oh, and Happy Fathers Day too! You are a great male role model for all of us here at Peachester too, so you can celebrate this year too.

Year 5/6 News

Interschool Sport

Interschool Touch kicked off last Friday. With depleted teams there was a massive effort required to get through the 4 games. As always there was great teamwork and support for each other. Please read the team’s updates below.

Girls Team

On Friday the 26th of  August we played interschool touch football. We played in a full girls team and we played against Beerwah State School, Glasshouse State School, Maleny State School and we had a scratch match with the Maleny State School boys. In our girls’ team we had Abby, Sophie, Tynisha, Lavarna, Anna, Sevennah, Harriet, Lilly, Sienna and Violet. We won one game against Glasshouse State School and got 4 tries and the other team didn’t get any tries. Sevennah got 2 tries, Lilly got 1 try and Abby got 1 try. We lost against Beerwah state school, Maleny state school and we lost in our scrap match. Game 1 against Beerwah we got zero tries and they got 5 tries, game 2 we got 4 and glasshouse got zero, game 3 we got 1 try and they got 2 tries  and when we versed the boys team we got 1 try and they got 4 tries.

Boys Team

On the 26 of August the year 5/6 boys and Nevaeh and Ruby played touch football at Beegees for interschool sport. We played 4 games against SMC boys, SMC girls, Maleny and Elimbah. We won all four games and all had lots of fun. We are excited to come back to play on the 9 and 16 of September. It was a very close game between us and Elimbah, however we just managed to beat them 5 to 3. A big thanks to Nevaeh and Ruby for swapping to the boys team because they were short on players. Darby and Ashton got most of the tries but Kuljan got 4 and Ruby got 3.

Instrumental Music Camp

On the 30th of August Ruby went to an instrumental workshop in Buderim. Over 36 different schools went with all different instruments like the clarinet, flute, percussion (drums xylophone clapsticks), bass clarinet, trumpet and lots more. The workshop went from 8:30 until 4:30. They learnt 5 pieces, with Ruby learning them all on her bass clarinet.

  • Fall fanfare
  • Storm chasing
  • Pirates’ revenge
  • Dragons at the draw bridge
  • Ready to fly.

"At the end of the day we did a big concert the strings also did a concert as well. We only played pirates’ revenge, storm chasing and dragons at the bridge for the concert." Ruby

From the Book Fair commission, we will be able to purchase many books throughout the year from Scholastic. Thanks also to those who helped out including our wonderful Library Captains Sophie and Violet.  Also, thanks to Makenzie and Sevennah.

Many, many thanks to the following people who bought a book at Book Fair and donated it to our Library –

Isabella Chatterton, Amelia Wright, Rory Holznagel, Sophie Holznagel, Haslam Family, Shaw Family, Idle Family, Thornton Family, Day Family, Roarke Carter, Wendy Carter and Jenny Martyr.

The classes did amazing art activities based on the CBCA Shortlisted books which our P&C kindly donated.  Hope you got to check them out at the fabulously fun disco on Friday night!
