Kindergarten Orientation
Our second Kindergarten orientation session will be held this week on Thursday 19 November at 9:30am. A second optional Zoom meeting will be held at 4:00pm that afternoon. This meeting will provide an opportunity to answer any questions you may have and elaborate on the handouts in the information pack. The Zoom code will be sent via email on the morning of the meeting.
2021 Classes and Requests
If you have any requests regarding your child’s class for 2021, please submit your request in writing or by email to the office. Whilst we take all requests into consideration we cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled. All request are due by Friday 27 November.
Remembrance Day
Last Wednesday we held our Remembrance Day Ceremony at school. The students and leaders were very respectful as we honoured and remembered those who have died for us in many wars.
Student Leaders 2021
We have 32 students from Year 5 who would like to be a Student Leader, SRC Executive or House Captain next year. Information about each candidate is on display on the library doors. The leader speeches and election will occur on Thursday 19 November. Best of luck to all candidates!
Showcase Concert
Our end of year showcase concert will take place next week on Thursday 26 November from 9:15am. This will be an opportunity for our band, drama group, dance groups and choir quintet to perform in a COVID-safe way. There will be a rehearsal on Tuesday 24 November. The showcase will be live streamed on Microsoft Teams. It will also be recorded so we can put a highlights video on Facebook and create a full concert video for parents to purchase on USB. Thank you to Mrs Wackwitz for helping with the filming.
Stage 3 Camp
Out Year 5 and 6 students will be heading off the Nepean Adventure Centre at Douglas Park in Week for their postponed Stage 3 Camp. We are very happy that camp has been able to go ahead and hope for fine weather when they are there.
Presentation Day
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Presentation Day will be held at school this year under the COLA on Thursday 10 December from 9:10am. The event will be livestreamed for parents on Microsoft Teams. There will be no PSSA awards this year due to the small number of games that have been played, and a sport award for each class will be presented instead.
EB Mufti Day and Canteen Morning Tea
On Wednesday 18 November the SRC is hosting EB Day to support the DEBRA Association. The DEBRA Association supports individuals and families living with Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB. Students are asked to dress in blue and purple and bring a gold coin donation. If your child does not have anything that fits the theme they can wear clothes of their choice. Please see the canteen information in this newsletter for items which will be available for sale at recess on this day.
Stage 3 Surfing Programn
Students in Stage 3 will be attending a Surfing Course at North Cronulla beach on Monday 23 November. The program is being run by Cronulla Surfing Academy and will cover three stations: Ocean Safety, Body-Boarding and Surfing. Some the things students will learn include rip identification, rescue skills, safe surfing zones and appropriate equipment handling. The program cost is being covered by a Sporting Schools grant that the school applied for and received.
Pedlars' Day
This year our annual Pedlars’ Day will be on Wednesday 25 November from 9:00am. Pedlars’ Day is Year 6’s special day for raising money for their parting gift to the school before moving on to high school. This exciting day takes the form of a mini fete. Students from Kindergarten to Year 5 are invited to take part in the activities. A note has been sent home containing further information
Leaving in 2021?
We are starting to look at numbers for 2021 and ask that you please inform the office if your children will be leaving the school next year so we can include that in our calculations. This is not required for Year 6 children heading to high school.
Have a fantastic fortnight and keep safe!

Debating
The Heathcote Public School Debating Team recently competed in a number of debates as part of the Primary Schools Debating Competition for Years 5 and 6. This competition featured over 660 teams from all across New South Wales. Our team, HPS Blue, managed to make it to the third round of the knockout finals. They were in the top sixty teams of the whole competition. After defeating Georges Hall Public they lost to North Sydney Public in a very close and competitive debate. They argued about the topic: "That we should ban all advertising aimed at kids". As the negative team they listed many strong reasons and gave plenty of rebuttal. Our team consisted of Jolie B, Sophie P, Elisa S and Allee R. Unfortunately we are now out of the competition but the team should be very proud of their accomplishments and to make it so far in the competition. Well done HPS Blue! Lachlan McPherson, Coordinator

Book Week Parade
So many amazing Curious Creatures, Wild minds walked through our school gates on Wednesday to celebrate Book Week. Characters came to life from so many books. The place was abuzz with excitement and colour. The Mad Hatter (thanks Mr Campbell) entertained us all with his jokes and riddles. Check out the Book Parade on our Facebook page if you haven’t already. We missed our visitors very much this year but are hopeful to see you all back next year.
After the Parade the whole school went across the road to enjoy a book or two on a picnic rug under the shady trees. The weather was just perfect to relax with a book. We all wished we could have stayed longer and read.
It is now time to start returning all library books back to the Library. This week is our last week for borrowing. The first class to return all of their books will be enjoying an ice block as a reward.
Happy reading everyone!!!!

Executive’s report
HPS P&C is pleased to advise we now have a Facebook Group! Join today Heathcote Public School P&C. The purpose of this group is to provide community and family members another way to contact and stay up to date with the latest news, notes and events from the P&C. We still also have our dedicated public Facebook pages: - Heathcote Public School Uniform Shop and Heathcote Public School Community Events.
Thank you, Lauren Doel, for participating in the Kindy orientation last Friday. We look forward to welcoming all the new families next year to the school and the P&C.
Common P&C Myths
Myth #1 - The P&C can survive without volunteers.
Fiction! No events, no fundraisers, no canteen, no uniform shop, and no HOOSH. All members of the P&C are volunteers including those holding executive positions. Without an Executive community all these services within the school will need to cease immediately. Schools have their own budgets —but invariably they need more than the budget allows. Fundraising to provide air conditioning for classrooms etc. is where the P&C becomes a valuable partner.
