'What's Happening' - Principal's Corner

Dear Families,

Our acquaintance night meet and greet was a huge success! What a great opportunity to bring our families, students and teachers together to share learning and build positive connections.  It was lovely to tour the buildings, say hello, and watch as students introduced their families to their new teachers.

Our partnership with families is what helps your child to make the best progress.  We will be looking to use different ways to keep you informed of your child’s learning this year.  We hope to support you to know their next steps in learning and how you can help them.

Homework

All class teachers have been working in their units to determine appropriate homework agreements in line with the school homework policy. We know homework is a much debated topic with varying responses from families. Recent surveys show some families want more homework, whilst others state their children get too much or that it interferes with other events. Teams have tried to work together to ensure consistency in amount and expectations of time spent. We want your child to be happy, able to successfully complete their tasks and have the all important balance between work and play. Please do not hesitate to contact teachers if you have any queries around your child’s homework.

 Class Communication Apps

A way we are improving communication with families is by using a range of electronic communication apps. These will be focused primarily for teacher-parent communication, with students being taught to use the tool to share their learning. Year Levels have opted to use the following tools:

Reception: Seesaw

Year 1: Class Dojo

Year 2-4: Seesaw

Year 5-7: Edmodo

To respect the work-life balance of staff responses to families will be within the working hours and can take between 1-3 working days. To communicate important information please contact the school office - this will ensure your query can be promptly followed up.

DO YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR FAMILY DETAILS?

Have you recently moved house and need to update your address? Changed your mobile number or email address?  Any other important information that needs to be updated - Custody, Medical etc...

It would be most appreciated if you send us an email with any updates to phone numbers, emergency contacts, medical etc to dl.1246.info@schools.sa.edu.au - with Update Family Details and your child's name in the subject line.

ALL ADDRESS CHANGES MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION - DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION ADDRESS CHANGE REQUIREMENTS.

In South Australia placement in a school is based on a child’s residential address.

It is very important that we have up to date address details on our EDSAS system.  We are unable to change any addresses without the following documentation.

If you own your home

·         a copy of the contract of sale for the property or a recent council rates notice, and

·         recent a gas or electricity bill for that property in your name.

If you rent a home

·         a signed rental agreement and a signed bond receipt lodged with Consumer and Business Services showing the current place of residence - the rental agreement should cover at least the first 12 months the child will be attending the school, and

·         a recent gas or electricity bill for that property in your name.

Renting a room or rooms at a property for your child, does not constitute a primary place of residence. Families must rent an entire property in order for it to be their primary place of residence.

If your child is living with a relative or friend, you will need to provide supporting documentation stating that the relative/friend is the legal guardian of the child. This documentation must include a parenting order from the Family Court, which states that the relative/friend is the formal full-time carer of the child.

The principal is responsible for determining whether proof of residence has been satisfied.

If you are unsure as to what address we have on file for you please contact the front office.

THIS INFORMATION MUST BE CORRECT FOR THE YEAR 7-8 TRANSITION PROCESS FOR HIGH SCHOOL DUE TO ZONING RULES.  IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL ZONE PLEASE CLICK HERE: SOUTH AUSTRALIA HIGH SCHOOL ZONE INFORMATION

If you are interested in a special interest or specialty program at one of the many high schools please follow the link to find out more: Secondary School Special Interest Programs

HAVE YOU GOT YOUR HAT???

Don't forget that Term 4 and Term 1 are HATS ON terms.  Our school policy is "No Hat, Play in the Shade'.

Children without a hat will be required to stay in shaded areas.

Please remember to name ALL of your child's uniform so we are able to find lost property owners.  A good tip is to use a white paint marker to put your child's name onto their hat.

We have bucket hats for sale at the front office for $15 if you need to purchase one.
