Baby News

I am pleased to share the news of the arrival of baby Lola Valentina for Miss Valenti and her partner Mark. Lola weighed in at 3.3kg and the new family are all doing well. Mrs Inch also welcomed Maisie Vida to the world on 14 January weighing in at 4.2kg. Mrs Inch, baby Maisie and the family are all doing well. I wish Miss Valenti and Mrs Inch all the best as they spend precious time with their new babies.

Lola and Maisie

Early Arrivers

We have noticed some students arriving at school quite early, before there is a teacher on duty. A reminder that students should not arrive at school before 8:30am unless they are taking part in a supervised activity such as dance practice, choir practice or chess club. Siblings of students involved in supervised activities are not permitted to wait in the playground before 8:30am. If children need to arrive at school before 8:30am because their parents are going to work, they need to be booked in to HOOSH to ensure they are kept safe.

Swimming Carnival

We had another successful swimming carnival last week despite the afternoon rain that meant we had to finish up early. Thank you to Mr McPherson, Miss Anderson and Mrs Steed for their thorough organisation of the carnival. Well done to all the students whose effort and behaviour was again exemplary. Good luck to those students representing HPS at the Engadine Zone Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 3 March!

P&C Movie Night

We are looking forward to the P&C Outdoor Movie Night coming up on Saturday 7 March. The P&C do a wonderful job organising these events and raising money for our school. Some more volunteers are still needed so please let Rebecca Bussell or Tracie Junghans know if you can help out.

The Barber of Seville

The school has been given an opportunity to have Opera Australia perform 'The Barber of Seville' at our school.  This programme has been touring for over twenty years and has provided first time access to opera to over one million students.

A note will be coming home today.

Returning Notes and Money

A friendly reminder to please ensure notes and money for school activities are returned by the due date as the office are currently wasting a lot of time chasing up families who have not returned notes. We often need to give final numbers before an activity takes place and the booking of buses is dependent on the school having accurate numbers to determine the size and number of buses required. Allowing parents the option of driving their children to a carnival helps families but creates a lot of extra administration work in the office, particularly when notes are not returned and changes are being made at the last minute. Unfortunately, if we are not able to confirm bus numbers on time because of notes not being returned we will need to ask all students to travel to the carnivals on the bus. Thank you to those families who always return notes on time. Everyone’s support with this matter is greatly appreciated.

Online Safety

The eSafety Commission has released an eSafety Guide which helps parents, carers and educators stay ahead of the latest games, apps and social media that many kids are using (e.g. Tik Tok, Snap Chat, Instagram) including how to stay safe and how to report inappropriate content. The guide can be accessed at www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide

Have a fantastic fortnight!  See you at the Movie Night!

DGR Library Fund

Our school now has a DGR (deductible gift recipient) Library Fund, which allows individuals to make tax deductible donations to our school for our library. Donations made towards these funds are tax deductible and are used for a particular purpose according to the guidelines for DGR funds and the constitutions for each individual fund. Donors providing gifts to a school DGR will be issued with a receipt for their tax deductible gift and should retain this receipt in their records for taxation purposes.

Criteria for donations to be tax deductible:

·         Donation must be over $2

·         Donation must state that it is for the purpose of the Heathcote Library fund.

·         Gift is made voluntarily

·         Donor does not receive any material benefit in return for the gift

Please contact the office if you would like more information.

Sentral Parent Portal

Our school has undertaken a new initiative, the Sentral Parent Portal, to provide parents with discreet information about their child/s progress in our school.

It is an exciting new communication platform that will keep you informed about everything happening at our school and make it easier for you to manage your child’s education.

We will be trialling, booking our Parent and Teacher interviews via this new Parent Portal. An email will be sent out this week with your access key that will link to your enrolled child. We will be sending it to the email that you have provided to the school to create your username, please see image below of what registration will look like.

We are confident that you will see the benefits of your registration immediately and be part of our journey in providing this facility to you.

Should you experience difficulties or have any questions please call me for assistance.

Kind regards

Amanda Loxton

Administration Manager

On Wednesday 26 February, Stage 1 had a very special visit from Mrs McCrea! Students are investigating the past in History lessons and exploring changes in our school. Mrs McCrea shared interesting insights as a parent and grandparent of students, and an office worker at our school. Did you know Mrs McCrea's daughter Leanne was the first female to wear shorts to Heathcote Public School?

Thank you for your time Mrs McCrea!

Mrs Oste

Library News

2020 Premier's Reading Challenge has begun. Each student in K-6 is encouraged to complete the challenge which ends Friday 28 August and will be recognised with a certificate from the NSW Premier at the end of the year.  The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students and to enable them to experience quality literature.

It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read more and to read more widely. Students should record the title of the book and the PRC number on the reading log in their homework books or simply enter the books onto the PRC online student reading record which will be available to enter from 2 March.

Students must read a certain number of books to complete the challenge.

K-2 must read thirty books with a red, green or purple sticker. Books can be read by the student or they can be read to the student by the parents, teacher or older sibling.

Years 3-4 must read twenty books with a green or purple sticker. Books must be read by the student.

Years 5-6 must read twenty books with a purple sticker. Books must be read by the student.

Happy reading everyone!!!!

Chess Club is on every Monday morning at 8:15am in the Library. If your child is interested in chess please encourage them to come along to learn the rules and develop the skills to play chess. Each lesson students have the opportunity to play against each other and utilise the skills learnt. Your child may also have an opportunity to represent our school at competitions held outside our school. We look forward to seeing more students join our Chess Club.

Please make sure your child brings their library bags to school on the day their class visits the library.

P&C NEWS

President's Report

Our movie night is approaching this Saturday 7 March. I am looking forward to it, as hopefully are others. It will be a great opportunity for children to spend time with their families at school, for parents and children to connect with each other and a great first event for the year for our new families.

A big thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time for the night. If you haven’t yet, but would like to, please let Rebecca Bussell know.

We are excited to be using some of our P&C funds to bring some inspiration and colour to the infants and primary toilets. A note will be coming home soon to ask for ideas from the children on what they find inspiring, encouraging and helpful, to help guide their choices. Please keep an eye out for it.

HOOSH

“We have been doing lots of fun science experiments like making slime, bouncing bubbles and bubble snakes, and even our own air-drying clay! We love making and trying new things!

We have started collecting Coles Stickeez and learning more about healthy eating. We eat things from each food group and use our healthy eating plates to help us know how. For cooking activities, we have even tried healthy treats like making our own frozen yoghurt for breakfast. We're also learning about Go4Fun and all of the cool challenges we can do together to stay healthy and active.

This month we're collecting plastic lids to give to Lids4Kids where they make them into prosthetic arms for kids! It's so cool! Thanks to the Greatorix family for their awesome donation! And a special thanks to the Birchall and McCoy families for their generous donations and hard work to help us adopt our koala.

By Jayla, Kaitlyn and Maya”
