Yandelora School Newsletter 2023

Term 1 Week 6

From the Deputy Principal

A message from our deputy principal

Welcome to week 6 as we quickly move through the term at a steady pace. Students are hard at work in their classrooms now with their learning as they have successfully settled in with their peers.

The past few weeks have seen the recommencement of our association with Narellan Public School's canteen where students are able to purchase lunch orders every Tuesday. This is a vital connection with our community with students in Block I responsible for travelling over to Narellan Public School, collecting the lunch orders and distributing them to classes. In addition, regular community engagement sessions continue where students purchase items from Narellan Aldi every Friday to support the hospitality program and Cafe Lyrebird.

As per our last newsletter Seesaw is now available again to our families to be involved in promoting the wonderful learning that takes place in the classroom. Please ensure if you have not already returned the 'Third Party Seesaw Consent'  form back to the office you do this as soon as possible. If you require a new QR code to access your child's learning portfolio please let the office know and a representative will assist you at the school.

As private messaging is not available on our Seesaw service families are encouraged to utilise the communication books regularly to provide any information that they feel is important that staff should be aware of. In the event of an absence at school there is E-Forms that can be accessed through the application Skoolbag so that you don't need to call the office to explain a child's absence from school. Over time we look to use this service for more self-service features as these forms go directly to our office and then can be directed to classroom teachers as required.

On Friday the 24th February our secondary students hosted one of a series of car wash fundraisers where students were able to wash the cars of some of our staff members. Our students loved the experience and it reinforced skills that enable them to work effectively as a work experience team. We look forward to the next one!

Starting in week 5 students from Macarthur Anglican met our students at Nott Oval in Narellan to engage in physical activity and social programs. Yandelora Students were able to communicate, form friendships and explore their local environment in the program. We look foward to some of the exciting updates on this program in the future.

Class Reports

Class Frogs

The students in room 4, Frogs, have been working hard on their book studies. So far, we have studied Possum Magic, where we learnt all about Australia, Australian animals, habitats, foods and magic spells! A highlight was when the class made their own magic potions, just like Grandma Poss.

Our new book is A Year on our Farm. So far, we have been building our knowledge about life on a farm, including animals, machinery, and jobs that a farmer might do each day. We have particularly enjoyed engaging with farm animals and expanding our vocabulary using great descriptive words.

H Block Report

We have had a very busy and exciting start to the year. We are shopping every Friday at Aldi and have bought supplies for the school canteen. Students are taking turns to serve customers and restock the canteen each week. They are learning about money and using communication to serve staff.

Each Tuesday we travel to Nott Oval, Narellan to participate in sporting activities with students from Macarthur Anglican College. Students play games like soccer, throwing, catching and coits. We walk to and from Nott Oval and students are practicing safety around the roads.

Swimming happens on a Thursday. Students are enjoying everything about the pool and are improving their ability to successfully and calmly transition from their classrooms to and from the pool.  Please label all items so we can ensure that everything goes home to the right families.

We are creating a variety of opportunities for fundraising for the Year 12 end of year celebration. The canteen and carwash were very successful. We have also sold produce from the garden.

We are looking forward to our first camp on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th March. The trip to Sydney Zoo will enhance and support our learning about the science unit we are studying which is living and non-living things. Further information will be coming in the next week. Stay tuned………
