Letter from the Acting Principal

What a wonderful way to end our week!

Our Annual Fun Run was a resounding success thanks to the coordination of Kathryn Forbes and our P&F Committee who worked tirelessly creating an amazing obstacle course on our oval.  The fundraising Portal will remain open this week.

On Friday morning we also had 10 Deputy Principals and Melbourne Archdiocese staff come to visit our classrooms and see our amazing teachers and students in action.  They spoke of how calm our classrooms felt and how engaged in learning our children are.  Comments were also made on how clear each teacher and students were about the purpose of what they were learning and that this purpose went beyond the classroom walls and into real life.  It was wonderful to be able to share the skill and expertise of our teaching staff with those from other schools and I felt so proud of our school community as they were acknowledged for the wonderful work they do .  Go Team SJB!

Fun Run Fun!!

Some of our Year 5/6 students who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation were at Mass on Sunday morning which was celebrated by Deacon Peter and Father Jim.  They both did a lovely job of making our students feel important and welcome and this occasion was made even more special as the Huitema family were also there for Alexis’ baptism. Congratulations Alexis!

Rapid Antigen Tests

If anybody is in need of more boxes of Rapid Antigen Tests please come and collect some from the office or alternatively email me at -  principal@sjferntreegully.catholic.edu to make other arrangements.

Carpark

Just a reminder that families are to use the bottom car park not the top staff parking area.  We have had instances where children have been left to walk in through the top carpark (near the church) unattended and this is very unsafe.  Please park in the bottom car park and either walk your child/ren up to their classroom or use the drop off zone if they are old enough to walk up on their own.

Soccer

We are very excited to announce that Soccer X are offering an after school Soccer Program next Term.  Please see the flyer below for details.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for school children up to Year 9, and children enrolled in an early childhood centre or program.

The challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. For students to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience an allocated number of books based upon their year level during the reading period.  We have registered our school each year and encourage families to sign up and support their children reach the set targets by 2nd September.

Children and students who complete the challenge will have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Victoria.

To enrol your child in the Premier's Reading Challenge please see  the attached form.
