2019 Leaders Inauguration Assembly

Last Friday we held our 2019 Leaders Inauguration Assembly where we had the pleasure of inducting our school captains, vice captains, prefects, house captains, house vice captains and iCentre leaders for 2019.

Staff, parents, carers and relatives watched with great pride as they witnessed our 2019 student leaders take their pledges to commit to the roles & responsibilities that encompass being a school Leader at Wyong Public School. As the Assistant Principal of stage 3 I would like to thank all parents, carers and relatives for attending this important event. Your support and encouragement to our students is genuinely valued. I am confident that these school leaders will be positive role models for their peers & they will represent our school with pride and excellence. I would like to extend a huge Congratulations to all of our student leaders. Well done!

School Leaders

Introducing our new leadership team for 2019! We are certain Mackenzie, Abbey, Azure, Liam, Yuzuki, Aleeyah, Luke and Chris will take great pride in fulfilling their important and special roles of Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects.

Kinder Report

Kinder have been very busy the last couple of weeks learning so many new things. We have had a Reptile Show to enjoy and lots of fun playing with our new friends in the playground. The hot weather has been trying but we have managed very well in the heat. Many children ,however, have misplaced their hats and belongings  in Our day to day busy lives. Please ensure that you have clearly labelled EVERYTHING! You would be surprised what goes missing and the number of items found each day with no name on them.

We will be starting homework very soon and home readers went home this week. Please make sure they are returned regularly in the folders provided so they can receive their new readers.each week. Kinder sport day is Tuesday so students will need to wear their sport uniform on this day. Also a labelled change of clothes in their bag in case of accidents.

Parent helpers will be needed in our classrooms in the next few weeks and notes will be coming from each classroom teacher. Make sure you are regularly checking your child’s bag as many notes and children’s work will be sent home. Newsletters are very helpful as well to remind parents/ carers of the many things happening at our school. Keep checking Class Dojo for teacher messages If you haven’t already joined your child’s Class dojo, please contact the class teacher for the code you need.

Kindergarten Home Reading Parent Workshop

We will be holding an information afternoon for all Kindergarten parents interested in finding out more about the Home Reading Program which students will be involved in at school. We will explain the best way to read new books with your child, how to support them as they read new vocabulary and how to give them feedback about their reading.

The session will be held from 2.00 pm next Wednesday 27th February in the KB classroom. This would be a great opportunity to have any questions you have about reading and supporting your child answered by our teaching staff.

The session will be completed prior to Kindergarten students finishing school at 3.00 pm. Please message you child’s teacher to let them know you are interested in attending.

Changes to the ICAS Assessments

Each year Wyong Public School offers the ICAS Assessments that are developed by UNSW Global. The assessments include: Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling, English and Mathematics.

This series of assessments recognise and reward academic excellence and are designed to assess your students' ability to apply classroom learning in new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. Students can enter one, some or all of the assessments.

ICAS Assessments have been paper-based in the past but this year they are online assessments, with the exception of the writing paper for Year 3 and 4.

The sitting dates for the assessments are now later than previous years. The first assessment, Digital Technologies, is not until Term 3. Consequently Wyong PS will not send out a note or take money for the ICAS Assessments until later in Term 2.

Snake Tails Reptile Show

Last Thursday the Infants students of Wyong Public School took part in a reptile show with Bob from Snake Tails. This hands-on experience allowed our students to get close and personal with some of our native reptiles. Some of the reptile stars included a frilled-neck lizard, blue tongue lizard and olive tree python. Students also got to see some of the world’s most venomous snakes, including the brown snake, fierce snake, tiger snake and red-bellied snake, all which were within the safety of their sealed enclosures.

Students learnt about the diets and habitats of local reptiles and also learnt important safety tips about what to do if they encounter any wild venomous and non-venomous reptiles.

The students had a wonderful experience and we are looking forward to having Snake Tails back again for another reptile encounter.

A special thank you to Miss Scotton for making this experience possible.
