St Mary's Newsletter

Term 1 - Week 8 (27 March, 2020)

Principal's Message

Dear St Mary's School Community

Gospel of John 11: 1-45

In Sunday’s Gospel, we hear the story of Lazarus whom Jesus brought back to life.  Jesus asks, “Do you believe that I give you eternal life?”  The Catholic faith has always had a strong conviction about heaven.  It’s one of the reasons why we have so many saints; people who help us live with a daily awareness of the reality of heaven.

BRLA 2020

We have been informed that due to the disruptions that the COVID19 pandemic has placed on Religious Education lessons and teaching and learning in general, the Bishop’s Religious Literacy Assessment for Year Three and Year Five will not take place in 2020.

Thank You

At the end of another very long week, I reflect on how lucky I am to be the principal of St Mary’s School.  I am surrounded by the most amazing staff, who have responded with agility and care to the constant changes and adaptations imposed on them, not only in the classroom but also with the staffroom being temporarily moved to the Hall so that we can employ social distancing but still spend valuable time with each other.  The students themselves have adapted to all the changes placed on them with understanding, big smiles on their faces and a bounce in their step. St Mary’s students are simply the best. Thank you to those parents who have ensured that the school has been informed of their child/children’s absence through Skoolbag and/or email with a full name signature. Thank you also to those parents who appreciate the challenges we are under as a school and have provided reassurance, positive feedback and practical support to the staff – your support and understanding is much appreciated!

Correspondence Home

This will be the last Newsletter for Term One.  However, I will send home a Bulletin in Week 9 and 10.  Any news and updates in regard to COVID19 will continue to come home through Skoolbag, as they arise.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Class News

Year Two RE Corner

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about Lent.  We have focused on how we live and act towards others and God. We have been discussing the importance of praying to God each day in order to remembering God’s love, giving up something they enjoy and doing things for others that show the love of God.

We have been following the stories of the types of people that Project Compassion have helped. Discussing what the money being collected during lent in the money boxes or through fundraising events such as the sports colours day will be used for. We have written some prayers for those people in need.

Year Two Class News

Over the past few weeks we have been practicing using two colours to write the sounds in our spelling words. It was a bit tricky at the start, but we are getting used to it! We have also been practicing using the SeeSaw APP to send work to our parents and really love to have our own iPads this year. Last week we had some very cute and fluffy visitors, thank you to Zac for letting us have a cuddle of your kittens!
