This evening we come together to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year 6 students. Please keep these beautiful children in your prayers: Lucien, Lucas C, Emma, Lucas M, Sophie, Eden, Callum, Siena, Amelie, Zara, Alexander, Jack, Cooper, Max, Gabriel, Winton and Noah.

Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Blessed Spirit of Wisdom, help us to seek You as the center of our lives so that we

may live in love and harmony with You and with all people.

Blessed Spirit of Understanding, enlighten our minds so that we may know and

love others, especially those of different cultures, beliefs, and economic situations.

Blessed Spirit of Counsel, guide us in all our ways so that we may be open to Your

holy will and follow You in our decisions.

Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, strengthen our souls in every time of trouble or

adversity. Make us confident and courageous in promoting justice and peace.

Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, help us to know good from evil. Give us clear vision

and a global perspective. Teach us to do what is right in Your sight

Blessed Spirit of Piety, possess our hearts. Incline them to a closer relationship

with You so that, with our whole person, we may see You, our deepest joy.

Blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, give us a sense of awe and reverence so that we may

be mindful of Your presence and of your divine image in every person.

Come to us, Holy Spirit of Jesus. Give us your holy gifts.

Leadership and Management

Dear Families and Friends of Our Lady’s Community,

This week we celebrate the gift of our mothers'. On behalf of all staff members, a happy Mother’s day to all of our school mums and special friends! We thank you for your ongoing support of our children and our school.  May you be completely spoilt by your children on Sunday, and on every day that follows.

I also take this opportunity  to extend a big thank you to AiMe, (Liam 3/4C) for coordinating the Mothers Day Stall once again this year. So much thought, time and care has gone into making this morning such a special time for children. Their little faces were filled with delight as they carefully chose a gift for their mum. AiMe, your generosity of spirit is much appreciated by all of us.

A special thank you to all the mums that helped AiMe this morning.

Staff Professional Learning  - Mathematics

At our recent  Closure Day for Staff, Professional Learning enabled the teachers from Our Holy Redeemer, Our Lady’s  and St Luke's Blackburn South, to gather together and continue our work under the initiative of the STEM Mathematics Collective. Our key learning intention for the day was: “We are learning about the Numeracy Learning Progressions, so that we can differentiate student learning and ensure all students have growth.” The Numeracy Learning Progressions can be used as a tool to facilitate a deeper understanding of numeracy development. They can be used in Victorian schools to support teachers in developing a comprehensive view of numeracy and how numeracy skills develop over time.

Foundation Enrolment Forms  - Sibling Enrolments for Foundation 2020

We request that all parents with Foundation enrolments for the 2020 school year submit enrolment forms prior to the end of the term.  This will greatly assist with our planning for student numbers and for our allocation of placements for new families to the school.  If you are aware of friends or family members wishing to enrol at Our Lady's, please advise them that enrolment forms need to be submitted in the near future.  Enrolment forms can be found on the school website.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

Social Media

A  reminder to return the Permission Forms to use students images on our social media platforms. Please see attachment below for the form.

Uniform

All students should now be in their Winter Uniforms. The Parish Education Board, last year reviewed our School Uniform Policy. The major change to the policy include the fact that all students are able to wear long/short pants.

A gentle reminder that socks that display a logo are NOT part of of the school uniform. If for any reason students are not in correct uniform, a note is required from parents/guardians.

Working Bee

Thank you to Nick and Richard for the coordination of the Working Bee on Saturday.

We were really pleased with the numbers and despite weather, managed to complete a lot of jobs that were on the list. Thank you to Melissa and her catering team for providing the food and to Fi for coordinating the communication for the day.

What we accomplished:

Re- organization of the storage room off the MPC

Re- organization of storage sheds/sport equipment and costumes

Back of the school cleaned

Drink taps cleaned

Chairs in the junior classes cleaned

Planting at the front of the school

Cutting back of bushes and shrubs around the tennis courts

We had intended on painting the playground equipment but due to the weather we were unable to.

SEESAW

The classrooms were abuzz with excitement last week, as the students were preparing their first SEESAW posts. They delighted in taking photos, recording and reflecting upon their work. SEESAW is a wonderful avenue for us to connect home and school. Thank you to Miss Ludescher for all the hard work that went into preparing this for our school. We look forward to sharing our work with you.

Grandparents Mass

Please note the change of date for the Grandparents and Special Friends Mass. This year

Mass will be held on September 5th @ 9.30am

Fun Run

Finally, a big thank you to all our families for supporting our School Fun Run recently. Although not all the money raised has made it to school yet, we can confirm that we have raised in excess of $3400 for Grace Orphanage and Caritas.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community.

Annie Engellenner

Principal

We pray for all mothers in our community.

May they continue to love and nurture their children and treasure their precious gift of mothering.

In the lead up to the election it's important for parents in our school community to be fully informed of the pre-election promises from each of the major parties and the Greens to be able to make an informed decision on who to vote for.

NCEC (National Catholic Education Commission) and Catholic School Parents Australia have provided some easy to read information sheets for parents about funding of Catholic schools along with an outline of what the Coalition, Labor and Greens parties have pledged relating to three key issues for Catholic education:

• School Funding • Religious Freedom • Early Childhood Education

Fete News

Dear OLPS Families,

Thank you to all who have continued on and those that have recently signed up to run a stall/activity this year. It is truly appreciated. We have only a few more gaps to fill so please, if you've been holding back, NOW is the time to step forward. There is only 1 stall that requires an owner/s this year (Major Raffle - more detail below) the rest are shadowing positions which means this year you watch how it's done, learn from the existing stall holder and then make it your own in 2020.

Major Raffle

This is a very straightforward stall involving:

  • Distributing raffle tickets to school families (i.e. pop a book in an envelope for each family and hand to the school office for distribution)
  • Sell remaining tickets - we have found after mass at OLPS (both English and Chinese) and OHR has worked really well - in the few weeks leading up to Fete
  • Collect/keep all ticket stubs and cash from school and community sales
  • Sell remaining tickets at the Information Stand on Fete Day
  • There is NO requirement to source raffle prizes, get the tickets printed etc. It's all done for you!

Please contact the Fete Coordination Team if you'd like to put your hand up for any of the above olwpfete@gmail.com
