Term 2 Week 7: Monday 6th June 2022

Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a busy two weeks it will be to conclude the remainder of my time at MIPS until Term Four!

Today, I met with the team working at improving the large car-park ‘garden’ area. Tomorrow, a group of educators from Padua College in Brisbane fly down to spend the day learning from us around elements we have implemented such as Assessment Capable Learners and Inquiry Learning. Tuesday, some students participate in the Cross Country Championship. Tuesday/Wednesday, Year 5 have their Gold Discovery Day. Friday is our Athletics Carnival. School Photos take place the week after that. On Thursday 16th June, we will have a Cyber Safety presentation by Constable Bollard with our senior student and then with parents that evening at 6PM. We then host a diocesan Principals’ meeting on the Friday followed by the Kinder and new families Welcome Barbecue from 6pm!

Our congratulations again to Mrs. Mizzi, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. George who are each stepping up into new leadership roles beginning Week 9.

Tell Them From Me (TTFM) surveys commence this week for us. Students from Years 4 to 6 will be completing theirs this week. Parent access will commence in the coming weeks.

Before I head off temporarily, I want to say a big Thank You to you as well. The partnership we share is one I value highly. I am just so proud of everything we continue to accomplish for our young people. I will be singing your praises in Kellyville.

Thank you for your ongoing supprt,

Mr Stephen Dowd

Operation Art - 2022

A number of children from K-6 have participated in a full day Visual Art workshop at school. These children  demonstrated an interest in designing and creating visual art works within their learning spaces. During the workshop the children were involved in planning, discussing, creating, implementing and completing a visual composition around a theme - “My Happy Place.”

Four artworks were selected to enter an exhibition called Operation Art - 2022 and will be framed and exhibited at Sydney Olympic Park from September to October. This event is held annually and exhibits more than 800 artworks created by students from Kindergarten to Year 10 in NSW.

The idea of Operation Art is for our students to create artwork to help cheer up children who are hospitalized. The NSW Department of Education and Westmead Children’s Hospital have collaborated together to implement this wonderful innovation. 50 selected entries will be displayed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, followed by a touring exhibition around NSW.

Congratulations to all the children who have participated this year. The artworks are outstanding and selecting four for submission was not an easy process. The four selected this year are:

Ruby B (5P) - “Treehouse Paradise”

This is my happy place! I've always wanted a treehouse in my backyard. A place to relax, read a book and enjoy a lovely sunset.

 Jayden M (5M) - “My Tribal Family”

I can count on my family and they make me happy. They are crazy but I will always protect them because I love them.

Saissha P (5M)  - “My Reading and Happy Tree”

I would lay against the trunk of my favourite tree with a book. A companion; alive and sharing my imaginative thoughts as I read.

Iyana C (2M) - “Stellar Constellation”

At the top of the mountain you are closer to the stars in the sky. At night the stars are brighter, beautiful and magical.

Recycling Soft Plastic Waste

THEY'RE HERE!

Fantastic news, our boxes to collect soft plastics have arrived and have popped up all over the school!

There are boxes next to the front gate, near the entrance to the TAS, outside the Year 5 rooms and at before and after school care.

I wonder which box will be the first to fill up?

Thank you to the families who have already started collecting.

The children in our Parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in September 2022.

Confirmation will take place on two Thursday evenings (either 15 September or 22 September at 6:30 PM).  Applications for Confirmation are now ready to be filled out online

Children in Years 5 or higher who have received their First Holy Communion are eligible to apply.  All applications are due by 30th June 2022.  We cannot accept late applications.  All areas of the application must be completed before we can accept the application.  Baptism certificates need to be attached unless your child was baptised at Mary Immaculate Parish.  Donations should also be done online.  If you are unable to donate online, then you can come to the parish office during office hours 9 AM to 4 PM.  If anyone is experiencing hardship, please contact Sister Valerie.

If your child has already received the Sacrament of Confirmation when they were baptised, they are not eligible to receive this sacrament again.  Confirmation can be received only once.

After you have applied, you will receive information about who can be a sponsor and the details about choosing a Confirmation name.  You will also receive information on how the Program of instruction will take place.

Any questions or concerns, please contact me by email or phone.
