E News - Term 2

Principal’s Report

Good day to you all,

The term has started really well with new ceiling and greatly improved lighting. I cannot thank enough the families that came in to pack up the school and then unpack it again; you truly are amazing.

We have welcomed Miss Elizabeth Hogg to the team and I am so impressed that the students in the Junior Room have made the transition so well. Elizabeth has settled in and has developed such great relationships with the students already. If you have not met Elizabeth yet do pop in and introduce yourself.

Welcome Miss Hogg

The Aboriginal Flag

It was with great pride that we raised the Aboriginal flag for the first time in SGPS history. It is great to show our respect towards all people of Australia. Thomas and Emily were the students that participated and raised the flag for the first time. Thank you so much to the P&C for paying for our flagpoles. A massive thank you to all those that helped putting the flagpoles in, your support is greatly appreciated.

ANZAC Day

On ANZAC day we had students representing our school at Grass Patch, for the dawn service and at Esperance later in the day. I would like to thank our student leaders, Mitchell and Sophie for their excellent and respectful participation. Some of the restrictions that were in place in Perth had an impact on us here in Salmon Gums. Therefore, 2 students were unable to attend. Thank you to Thomas and Emily for stepping in at the last minute. All students represented SGPS in a thoughtful, caring and respectful manner. Thank you and well done.

RFDS

On Thursday the 13th of May the student leaders would like to invite the community to come to school from 1-3pm. On the 17th May it is Royal Flying Doctors Day and we would like to celebrate this a few days early. The leaders would like to fundraise as it is an important service for our community. We hope you can join us for a sausage sizzle and paper plane competition. (See below)

We would like adults to join us for lunch and take part in the competition too. We know it is seeding for many people, but even if you can spare an hour. We need to do the day before the 17th of May, so that any money we raise will be doubled.

Great things I have seen:

Warm Fuzzies made by all PP-Y6 students on Fridays with Mrs Norwood. I do like the work the students did on being grateful, they really showed that they are appreciative for what they have and what they can do. A big well done to all K-6 students on Tuesday’s for what they are doing in drumming and Zumba sessions; great participation guys.

I am Grateful

Star Students

Thomas and Emily for stepping up and participating in the ANZAC services AND for performing the historical event of raising the Aboriginal flag for the first time at SGPS. I love what you two students have done for the school this term.

We have some great things coming up over the term, including the RaW festival (Reading and Writing) and camp for the Year 5 and 6 students. I wish I was going to both! We also have NAPLAN next week and I have every faith that our students will do their personal best.

Thank you,

Sasha

Attendance

As you are aware we are continuously striving to improve our attendance and we are hoping to reach our target of over 93% attendance across the school this term. If a student’s attendance is over 90% they are considered to be regularly attending school and this will support them to reach their full potential.

There are 4 levels of attendance: Regular (blue), Indicated (yellow), Moderate (orange) and Severe (red). We report student attendance each Semester on their reports. We, of course, understand that there will be times the child needs to take time off, in particular if they are unwell. We really appreciate it when we get 100% attendance, this term nearly everyone has been here 100%, well done! A few students have been unwell and wisely stayed at home, thank you for not sharing your germs. Term 2 so far is above our target, which is fantastic, thank you everyone. We appreciate your continued support.
