Term 2 Week 9

About us

Cowaramup families have a strong connection and association with Cowaramup Primary School.

Throughout the years, Cowaramup Primary School has been characterised by high quality teaching and support staff who have set high literacy and numeracy standards, resulting in excellent academic achievement and progress.

Our school prides itself on developing a positive school culture through managing behaviour in an educative, supportive way.

From the Principal's Desk

We are all very proud of the performance of the school choir at the last assembly and at the Biggest Morning Tea a few weeks ago. The students were entertaining, and really showed how much they like performing to an audience.

On Friday of next week, we are all looking forward to celebrating NAIDOC day.  There will be a traditional Welcome to Country, digeridoo playing and staff running a number of activities throughout the day with students in their buddy groups.  Rooms 11 and 12 will also perform for the whole school.

Teachers have been busy writing end of semester 1 reports and you should look out for them in the last week of school.  A reminder that they are sent by email with a link to download them.  If you have recently changed your email address, please contact the front office with the new details.

Parents with children of kindergarten age for 2022 should be enrolling their children now if they haven’t already done so.  Places will fill quickly and getting this information now allows us to plan for 2022.

A reminder to all parents that Term 3 commences for students on Monday 19th July.  This is different for many local schools. The school buses will be running on this day for Cowaramup students.

After more than 20 years at Cowaramup Primary School and after seeing so many students go through her Pre-Primary classroom, Amanda Podvrsnik has decided to retire.  Amanda is looking forward to this next phase and the exciting opportunities it will bring.  During the last week of term, we will have a celebration of her dedication and commitment to the teaching of young children.

Next term Ms Debra Niotakis and Ms Maddie Gaines will be taking leave allowing them to have some extended travel time.  I am sure both of them, will enjoy their adventures and return refreshed for the commencement of term 4.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy their school holiday break with family and friends.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

From the School Yard

Destination High School

In Week 6 of this term, the Year 5 children had a fun-filled day experiencing life as a High School student.  We toured the farm with Mrs Howse before playing some physical activities in the biggest undercover area the kids had ever seen.

After cookies for recess, the children had a look at the new buildings around the school before building some pencil holders in woodwork.  The lucky kids from CPS finished the day with lunch from the Cow Town Bakery and experimenting with cameras in the photo lab.

Underwater exploration

Recently PP1, PP2 and Room 13 went on an excursion to the Busselton Jetty. It was a lot of fun seeing what was under the water - lots of angel fish, herring and pretty coral, as well as Samson fish as big as the kids!

All the kids were so well behaved, we did not have to feed them to those big fish ?Thanks for a fabulous day.

Magic Milk with the Year 2's

The Year 2's have been learning all about mixtures and how to use the scientific method during our science lessons. This week Room 4 did an experiment called Magic Milk. We placed milk in a shallow dish and placed four (4) different coloured food dyes in the milk. We made predictions about what would happen when we placed a cotton tip covered in detergent into the middle of the food dye. Some of our predictions were that the milk would change colour and that it would go bubbly. What we observed was that the dish washing detergent chased all the colours away from the middle of the plate, creating interesting and colourful patterns. We had so much fun doing this experiment and loved watching the different patterns that different groups made.

Year 3's examine manufacturing and processing

As part of Design Technologies, the students in Year 3 have been looking at manufacturing and processing. We have watched sheep being shorn, cows milked and bread being made. As part of the learning process, we have researched different breads from around the world!!  Afterwards, we tasted different breads including bagels, croissants, brioche and flat bread.

I'm not sure if Vegemite really has been designed to go with bagettes! The students enjoyed it!  Some even said it was the BEST day of their school life.  Sorry to the parents that made their lunches and then they were too full of bread!

HELP DEVELOP THE STEM STARS OF THE FUTURE

There is a chance to win a share of $20,000 to boost our school’s STEM budget and create new opportunities for STEM education, with a competition run by The West Australian.

The funds could be used for classroom or whole-school resources, STEM clubs, incursions and/or excursions - whatever our school requires to take  STEM learning to the next level.

Collect entry coupons from Saturday’s edition of The West Australian on June 19 – gather as many coupons as you can and drop them into the office.  We will then tally them and send them all in together to see if we might be one of the lucky winners.

Appreciating our Library Volunteer - Judith Bull

We are very lucky to have our fabulous library volunteer, Judith Bull, donating her time to work with us on a Wednesday in the library.

Judith has been volunteering at Cowaramup Primary School library for five years and provides a welcoming presence to our students.  Judith encourages a love of reading in all of the classes that come when she is here, and helps our students to find books that they enjoy and are suitable for them.

Judith also spends A LOT of time covering our fabulous new books, so that they can be enjoyed for years to come, along with tidying our library.

Judith loves it when the children recognise her and say hello, so be sure to encourage your child to say hello, even in the playground at recess or lunchtime.
