Positive Culture for Learning

Welcome back to Term 2.

Our school is a community, and we have expectations to support a positive school culture. The expectations are: Be Friendly, Be Proud, Be Respectful.

Each week, students participate in a Positive Culture for Learning lesson which focuses on our school expectations and the You Can Do It Program.

The You Can Do It (YCDI) Program is a social-emotional learning program developed by Professor Michael Bernard that aims to boost success, improve relationships, reduce stress, and promote optimal levels of wellbeing.

The You Can Do It program focuses on the 5 Keys to School Success:

·         Persistence

·         Confidence

·         Organisation

·         Resilience

·         Getting Along

Throughout the term, we will post information about the key features of the YCDI program and include information on how you as parents and carers may be able to reinforce each Key to School Success with your student.

Assembly

We warmly welcome you to join us at our next Positive Culture for Learning assembly on Wednesday 03/05/23. You will find seating up the back for your comfort, and we kindly ask you to enter and exit the CPAC via Glen Eagles Drive.

2023 Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey

In Week 2, on either Thursday 27 April or Friday 28 April, students in Years 4 and 5 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.

We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how state school students view their wellbeing and engagement. Results from this survey will allow us to better support our students and meet their needs.

An information letter will be sent out this week. If you have any questions, please contact Hayley Krause (hwhyb2@eq.edu.au) or Cherie Andrews (csadl13@eq.edu.au).

Kind regards,

Hayley Krause and Cherie Andrews

From the Principal

Dear parents,

Welcome back to our second term and a warm welcome to our new students and their families to the Robina State School community. It was great to see all of our students return this week refreshed and energised from their Easter holidays ready to engage in their learning and achieve the goals they have set for this term. It is a very busy term with our Semester 1 reporting together with various sporting events and class excursions and camps.

One of these very important occasions will occur next Monday 24 April, with our annual ANZAC Day ceremony. This is an opportunity for our students to commemorate the service and sacrifice, of all Australians who have served our country with distinction and honour.

This week we are really looking forward to welcoming parents along to our Cross Country on Friday. All the details are included in this newsletter and on SkoolBag. We are hoping for fine weather and a great day for our students, with the weather a little cooler than it has been.

Our student leaders for 2023 spent two days this week at their Student Leadership camp. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to participate in a variety of activities that were designed to develop leadership skills and their sense of community.

Over the Easter vacation our area near Prep and Year 1 was resurfaced and looks amazing. The students are thoroughly enjoying the new surface every opportunity they get. A huge thank you to our wonderful Parents and Citizens’ Association for making this upgrade possible. Our school is so very fortunate to have such enormous support from our P&C. The facilities we have at our school are only possible because of the continued support we receive from our P&C.

There are two other facilities upgrades occurring in our school. Our Year 4/5 block is receiving some maintenance upgrades and should be completed next week. This will allow full use of this building once again. Commencing in week 3 will be the replacement of the roof on our Innovation Hub and Tuckshop. This work will result in some restrictions during this term and the areas will be clearly signed for access. All safety measures are in place and work is designed to allow school to continue with the least possible disruption. The Tuckshop roof will be completed outside school time. The main change impacting parents will be the temporary relocation of Student Services. From Monday 8 May Student Services will be operating out of the Uniform Shop. Access to Student Services will be through the Glen Eagles gate NOT the front entrance on Killarney Ave from Monday 8 May until further notice.

Parents will have received a notification by email and SkoolBag in regard to permissions required for student use of third-party online services (eg.Apps) used in our school and how student information, including personal information and works, may be recorded, used, disclosed, and published to the services. It is very important that every parent completes this form by Friday 21 April 2023. This was sent out towards the end of last term. If you require further information, please contact the school office prior to Friday.

Next week Education Queensland is recognising the important work School Guidance Officers do in our schools. Guidance Officer Week (24 April to 5 May), highlights their role in providing counselling and advice on educational, personal, mental health and wellbeing issues for students. In 2023, we recognise and celebrate 75 years of guidance support in our state schools. Our Guidance Officer, Kim Roebig, does a very valuable job supporting our students and families. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge her contribution to our school community.

Regards,

Carmel Baker
