Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope our dads had a great Father's Day. Thank you to our amazing P&C for hosting the Father's Day stall, the gifts looked fantastic!

Some children forgot their money for their gifts so if your child purchased a gift and hasn't yet made payment, please send the money to the office.

Happy SASS Week!

This week we are celebrating the amazing efforts of our School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) who go above and beyond to support our students, teachers and parents. We’re so lucky to be working with such amazing individuals! Thank you Marg, Michelle, Jane, Lauren, Lynette, Sue and Richard for everything you do!

Next time you’re in our school, take a moment to thank one of our amazing SASS members!

Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction

I’m excited to announce Talisha Opalnuik has been successful in the merit selection process for our position of Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (APC&I), commencing 2023. Talisha comes to us with considerable experience in improving schoolwide literacy and numeracy outcomes as the current Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction at Nowra East Public School. Talisha previously occupied the role of Regional Literacy Trainer, Illawarra Region, working with staff across more than 30 schools to support teaching and learning.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a new non-teaching staffing allocation for all Department of Education primary schools, aimed to improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy. With a focus on delivering ongoing targeted professional learning, Talisha will work alongside teachers to ensure student learning is maximised in literacy and numeracy. This is particularly important in 2023 when the new K-2 literacy and numeracy syllabuses commence.

We welcome Talisha to our school’s leadership team and know she will love being a part of Team Tomerong!

Farewell Mrs Williams

At the end of this term, we will say farewell to our amazing Defence School Mentor, Mrs Cassie Williams, who has recently finalised her last teaching prac and is about to commence her career as a teacher. Cassie has been a tower of strength to families and students of the Defence Force and I know she will be missed by everyone at Tomerong School.

We wish Cassie all the very best as she embarks on her journey into the amazing world of teaching. Please see below for information about filling the DSM position.

Congratulations Athletes!

Last Friday Jye, Ashton and Isla competed at the Regional Athletics Carnival at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Each of our representatives performed amazingly, with Isla qualifying for the State Carnival in Sydney for the 100m event. Congratulations!

Slime Run - postponed

With less than a quarter of our students having fundraised for the event, we’ve made the decision to postpone our Slime Run to Week 2 of next term. It has also been decided that, as this is a fundraiser, only students who have raised funds will compete.

To start fundraising, you will need to set up a fundraising page for your child. You can do this by visiting
plantadifference.com.au and start asking family and friends to support your child. If you require assistance with setting this up, please make contact with the school.

Good Luck ToM Team!

We wish our Tournament of Minds team every success this Sunday when they compete in the state finals at University of NSW. This is a huge achievement and one we are all very proud of.

Great work, Beau, Arabella, Jaya, Harry, Levi, Scarlette and Will!

SCHOOL SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY PROGRAM

Our School Swimming and Water Safety Program commences next week. Every day for two weeks, students will be meeting in the COLA with their bags at 10.45am to eat their lunch and get changed into their swimmers. They will not need to wear their swimmers to school underneath their uniform as originally stated in the permission note. At 11.10am, students will be catching the bus to Bomaderry Aquatic Centre for a 45 minute lesson from 12-12.45pm. Students will then get changed back into their school uniform and arrive back at school at recess.

Important things to remember:

Students will need to bring their swimmers, a towel and goggles (highly recommended) every day in a waterproof bag.

Thank you,

Mrs Raymer

P&C NEWS

Father’s Day Stall

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day of the stall, we very much appreciate your time.

It is always nice for our kids to be able to gift their loved ones a present on Father’s Day and make them feel valued and loved. If your child bought home a gift and forgot to send in the money, it would be greatly appreciated if $5 per gift was sent into the office to help cover costs and raise money for the school.

P&C Meeting

If you have new ideas for the school, suggestions for fundraising or just want to get involved, come join us at the next P&C meeting on Tuesday 13 September at 6pm in the library. Hope to see you there!
